Default Valve spring installation

Not sure where to post this but...

I have a b18b head I'm working on. Just took it apart to clean and replaced valve seals. Now the springs look pretty even on each end in terms of "coil tightness" i guess. Distinguishing the tighter side is not the problem. In the helms manual, they state that the tighter end goes toward the top. But I've seen pics and other references saying the oposite. What am I to do?

whatever book told you the tighter coils are on top should be tossed in the trash immediatly. Please call the author and inform thier party they are retarded and need to gather info before writing a book.

The tightly coiled ends go on the bottom of the head. The tight coils sit on the spring seat.

are you sure you read it correctly? tighter coils mount towards the head, not the retainer.
