Default NUB FUEL PUMP QUESTIONS...

i will be changing out my fuel pump because i ASSUME it is the issue....

car wont start....
Fuel injectors not spraying...
main relay seems to be clicking...
No burnt fuses...
ASSUMING the issue is a dead fuel pump...

before i remove the stock fuel pump...
how do you know if the fuel pump is priming?
do i have to take it out to tell or is there a sound i should be hearing?
thx

When you first turn on the key your check engine should light for about 3 seconds, during this time your fuel pump is priming. If you open the gas cap and put your ear very close and have someone turn the key on listen for a whinning sound until the CEL goes off. Keep cycling this until your SURE it's not making noise. I can usually hear it in my car but that is without interior so I can't tell you if you'd hear it with interior.

You could also remove the main relay from the mount point and run a hot from the CIG lighter to the fuel pump wire(someone chime in I don't remember the color) and if your main relay is bad(very very common) the pump should still prime this way but your car will not drive long like this, only a temp bandaid thing.

Good luck

OK.... i just checked... i took the back seat out to be able to hear more clearly... the pump IS priming... i short high pitch sound... about 2 secs long coming DIRECTLY from the fuel pump...

so does that mean that the pump is dead or not?

can hear the pump priming when i turn the key, (high pitch sound for about 2-3 secs.).... does that mean

(A.)the pump is good and there is some other issue *(main relay maybe)

or does that mean

(B.)that the main relay is good since it is priming the pump, but the pump is BAD since it will not send the fuel...

Check if power is getting to your pump when you turn your key on

Borrow a voltmeter, or a screw driver with a tester (those with a lamp on the handle).

check for spark if your injectors are not firing cuase that could mean a faulty ecu, it won;t be the relay if your getting pressure at the rail. If you have access to a friends ECU to test it that may work. or spray some 2+2 into the intake,

Be very careful and crack the fuel filter service bolt, turn the key and see if fuel come out. That will rule out the fuel pump.

fuel pressure is reaching the rail... how much, i dont know... i disconnected the banjo fitting and put the hose in a cup... had a friend turn the key and gas was pushed out...

here is a complete update on what is happening...
injectors are ALL getting POWER and GROUND...

PROBLEM(s)

** no spark... i took the distributor apart and checked coil and ignition moduel... both are in great condition...pulled spark plug out and grounded, turned key...no spark...even used inline ignition tester...nothing

*** no injector spray... all injectors are getting solid power (11.45) and ground... fuel getting to fuel rail... fuel pump primes and sends fuel...pressure unknown (?)

**** ecu: opened ecu, nothing fried... no bad or different smell... when key in car is turned, GREEN LIGHT in USB port comes ON (HONDATA s300) if there was a short in wires or ecu was toast HONDATA s300's"Automatically" throws a RED LIGHT showing there is a issue with the car's wiring (it did it when my main relay fried my wire harness underdash 8 months ago)

Q:
what else could prevent the car from giving spark

Q:
if injectors have solid power and ground AND fuel pump is working... what is preventing fuel spray.

more details from day 1:

***the day the car died the motor GRADUALLY lost powerover about a total of 10 miles, died about 2 times at stop lights, had to keep pushing gas and turning the key to get it moving again...when it would start after the dead stop, no matter how much i pushed on the gas the motor would stay at a very low idol as if i wasnt pushing the gas at all then would catch and start accepting fuel and i would be able to give the motor gas... while trying to get home over about 8 miles of freeway driving, i was unable to climb into high RPM's even @ FULL THROTTLE to keep with normal freeway speeds... i would have to downshift into 4th or 3rd to gain speed until the motor just died from fuel loss and ending up along the side of the road.***

** when i turn the key -NOW- the motor sounds like it would start if it could get some gas.... but it only turns over.... please remember, there is also still NO SPARK...
thx again guys
