VAFC hack- safe settings for D16 @ 6psi?
Ok, just got my 450's installed last night and got my VAFC all wired up and the car runs well enough. I followed the instructions here: http://www.thedropshop.tv/vafc.htm
The problem is, with the -35 low cam and -36 high cam settings all the way across the board, the car idles like crap (incredibly rich) and backfires a bunch, on the top end when I get close to 5 grand it starts to detonate.
I've messed around a little bit with leaning it out on the low end and richening on the high end, but I would really like some better base numbers to start from than just -35 all the way across the board.
What are you D16 guys with the hack running for numbers and how much boost and timing retard are you running?
Oh yeah, and I searched already and didn't find anything... and please don't tell me to go to the dyno ASAP... that's not what I'm asking, I'm asking for some safe settings UNTIL I can get to the dyno. I live in the middle of nowhere and it's a 3 hour drive to the nearest dyno so it's not like I can just drive downtown and strap the car on.

I kinda wondered about why the one # was higher... but everyone links to that site when someone asks about the VAFC hack so I assumed they knew what they were doing.
I'll test out your map and see what I can do. Do I just use those #'s for wide and narrow throttle, high and low cam... and is 98% and 99% good #'s for the hi/lo throttle points?

Anywhere in the -30% range and you'll be fine.
Even at -40% you will still be running rich enough.
I would think the detonation problem is due to your ignition timing, and NOT the fuel trim. Try knocking your distributor boack to 13deg btdc.
Also, the idle problem your having is most likely not due to it running rich,
but in fact it is probably running lean. You will have to set the <1000rpm to
between -25% and -30% to smooth out the idle. Reason being is that the larger injectors take a little longer to open at idle.
Try these things. And just leave it at -35% all the way across, you'll be safely rich.
just remember to do both high and low throttle maps.
