vacuum source for tial wastegate?
just recently got my freshly built b18c running and have been street tuning it and breaking it in . the time has come to start putting it underload. i have been into boost a few times and logged and mapped it.
its a 0.7bar spring thats in the wastegate but i left my foot down in 3rd gear and watched the boost gauge go past 20 as i let off.
my only thought is that the vacuum line is not good enough, i have it T'd with the line to the BOV , and the the hose is quite long too , all the way round the eninge bay to the front of the engine , using a ramhorn manifold with 38mm tial gate.
any other ideas where to start looking ?

is it hooked up correctly? you should use a boost only source hooked to the side port of the wastegate.

remove wastegate, do a 3rd gear pull, see how much boost you build
also get the bottom port on a pressure only source, do not let it see vacuum

dont know if this helps but here is an install diagram

scratching my head too.
if you can, can you source your boost reference off of the turbo? (IMHO the best place)

never heard of testing a manifold like that at all, I would imagine that even with a terribly designed manifold a 1.5" hole in it would not allow much of anything, although I am not saying that is the truth, just what I would figure.

everyone is always quick to throw out the "poor wastegate placement" arguement but ive seen some SHITTY wastegate placements that had little to no issues controlling boost.
if hes got a .7 bar (~10psi) and its spiking 20psi without sign of opening im guessing hes got the vac source hooked up wrong.

hey , thanks for the replies , think the wastegate placement its all right, looks the same as many other setups ive seen .
think ive got this thing hooked up wrong though, a boost only source as in before the throttle body ?.
and i was under the impression i need it on the top port.
currently have a hose from the top port to the intake manifold , but T'd into the bov hose on the way .
?

yup, top port is used for electronic boost coltrollers

the way you have it hooked up right now will make the WG make the most boost it psychically can. good news is i think you just found your problem lol
