Using a Rod with a machined Journal?
I'm looking into a set of rods for sale for a good buy but the guy states one rod is machine .007 over stock size. I know of big blocks you can use rods like this because they dont make bearings for OD oversize but rather ID oversize to accomidate for crankshaft machining. I know this will remove a lot of weight in terms of ballancing the system. So I thought if Honda mad OD oversize specific for machining rod journals I would just have the rest machined .007 over to match weight.

IMO if you have to pay to machine the rest of the rods then why bother, just buy a different set of rods at a slightly higher price that you dont have to mess with. If im not mistaken you can get larger OD bearings, I would have to call my machine shop though, He has acces to alot more specialty stuff like that and knows where to get it. maybe check with your machinist....you could also just machine the rod back down to size, however .007 is alot of material, and I am unsure if that would weaken the rod removing that much material. I dont know if I would even mees with it if it was free,

yeah I have been reading and found that a lot of people feel that if you machine a rod you are looking at a much higher risk in spinning a bearing again and again.

U could take that one to a competent machine shop and have them cut the cap and resize the big end to a factory size. Although U might be able to find a factory bearing to get ur clearance back.
