Default UR crank pulley and lightened flywheel bad idea?

Ive heard many stories about the UR crank pulley. Not decisive either way, but I have an H22a thats had the Ur crank pulley for about ~7-10k miles. I will be doing the lightened flywheel upgrade with my action clutch in a few months. Is it a bad idea to keep the crank pulley? Should I got stock? Is the Ur crank pulley ok? Ive done searches but nothing worthy came up. So im asking you pros and builders here. Thanks

I would go back to stock. The pulley is balanced to help with engine vibrations. Take that out and you can do more harm then good. Also, I had one and the outside rib to keep the alt. belt on broke in two.

I have no idea. I just heard a rattling noise the day before and paid no mind. The next day I had it on the lift and saw the pieces.

i had unorthodox pulleys on my car for about 60,000 non-turboed (back in those days) abusive miles. not a problem at all.

If you decide to get rid of it let me know. I would glady trade it for my stock one.

Every honda engine I know comes with 1 model that has a solid crank pulley.
I read all this information about how UR pulley's being solid kills motors, well Honda has lots of applications from the factory that use solid pullies.

I've seen many instances of peoples bearings going near the pulley when they install them, but this is usually do to them WAY overtightening the belts when they put on the pulley. This will cause a larger force vector in the direction of the accessory the belt is driving, putting an added force on one end of the crank. This more likely is the cause of the wear on the bearings you are seeing, rather than the pulley.

Yeah I know there will always be arguements either way with many pros and cons of each. But having a hatch with no option for AC nor Powersteering really makes the stock pulley more of a burden than a help. Maybe I will look into just getting a local machine shop to cut of the end that is not being used and lighten it up a bit for me..

the whole thing of peoples cars failing due to the pulley is bullshit. The CTR race crank pulley doesnt have a damper in it either....Honda still uses it.

Id use it and the flywheel.

plus all they guys at UR have the same pulleys on all of their cars and have had for years, i've seen them many times with my own eyes. IMO their products are excellent, esp. their cam gears. i've used them on my car and will continue to.

Hey was reading some of the information on your page. Very nice setup and some nice numbers. I am only up to 5/6/02 but your car sounds like a beast. Hopefully I will be able to get close to those numbers once my setup is all said and done..

I will be in an eg though with a S-type JDM lude engine.

Thanks for the replys guys. Im debating wether i should put it on. I hear from a lot of people that its bad, i believe Rocket said this too, but then there are others like you guys and UR that have had it on their cars for a while now. So its hard. I want to go with the UR crank pulley and the lightened flywheel, but i dont want to ruin anything, its not worth that little extra weight saved and the underdriven-ness that it provides. Thanks
