Upgrading t3/t04e compressor wheel?
Whats up, I have a Turbonetics t3/t04e 54 trim .63 stage 3 that i was thinking about upgrading too a t3/60-1. Is it as easy as having the compressor wheel swapped out with the 60-1 or do you have to machine the housing/backplate also?
It's a larger inducer and exducer, so it would require a new cover and backplate. If the 54trim is still good, I'd just sell it and buy a new 60-1. The individual parts and labor charges would be nearly as much, if not more.
Exactly. Not to mention, for the 60-1, the stage III wheel is really a mismatch for that compressor wheel. you want to bump up to at least a Stage V or P-trim to do that. You would need to change back plates, compressor cover, internal bearing system (the one on the 54 trim has a lot to be desired). As HiProfile stated, by the time you do all that, you could sell your 54 trim, and use that money towards a proper turbocharger. Might even be something more advanced than a 60-1 depending upon your budget.
Thanks for the answers guys, I guess ill sell it and get something else. The 60-1 came to mind cause my goals are 400whp, maybe more later, on a piston/rod GSR on a spoolin log with a 3" dp....so I know I'm gonna have to run more psi then I would with a nice ram mani.
Not necessarily. The manifold isn't directly "psi" related. IF you're going to use one, then use one, but remember there are different configurations of the 60-1 that are available, you just have to look for them. The standard one has a bit left to be desired
Whats a budget minded turbo you recommend for a daily driven GSR at 400whp?

Budget meaning something I might find used for under $600, cause I'm assuming I'm not gonna get much for this used 54 trim.
