Default upgrading IC to 2.5" hurt?

Would upgrading to 2.5" IC piping really hurt performance drastically? Like how much? Would staying with 2.25" be better overall for no less than 12 psi?

If you think it would hurt performance, I wouldn't call it "upgrading". Keep in mind that larger piping would slow the air flow down. Also, it may take some work to get it hooked up, if your IC is set up for 2.25" piping.

Sounds like someone needs to study physics again

same air flow in a larger pipe? = reduced velocity in my book (shrug) But I draw pictures for a living....so I dunno...makes sense to me.

Another consideration, while changing pipe diameter does not directly change intake temps, it does increase pressure losses. If you have to increase boost pressure at the turbo to compensate for pressure losses from your plumbing you could effectly have increased air temps while running the same intake manifold pressure. The difference between 2" and 2.25" if probably not very significant though.

piping is ussually at 2.25 for a reason... there is no need to make it bigger unless u are rasing the boost... biprobe is right... the velocity will be slowed down... to add to it... isnt 2.25 about the diameter of the tb about? putting a 2.5" pipe to it kinda defeats the purpose... u see cars with 3" pipes and all... but they also run hi-boost, and big throttle bodies
