Hello H-T,
Ive been working on my project turbo gsr crx. It is out of commision and Ive been trying to get as much weight out of it as possible. It has a full-race 3" downpipe+3" thermal exhaust which has always rubbed and mad noise+leaked exhaust into the cabin. I was wondering if anyone has weighed a 3" or 4" up-pipe and compared it to how much a full downpipe with exhaust setup? Also, how much louder is it inside the car with that setup? My car is basically my drag strip/nice weather fun car so the streetablity is not really an issue.
thanks.

Its not as loud as you think, and there is not resonating inside the cabin from the exhaust being under the car. That is my experience riding in a few cars with hood exit exhausts.

good deal. I figured it might actually be quieter in the car (not that it matters since it is basically a gutted track car). I would like not smelling like gas as much though or the hear the loud droaning driving to the track or meetup.
Benefits are the weight savings, the simplicity and you'll be the first to know if a head gasket let's go lol. The disadvantages that I've noticed with mine is all the black crap blowing all over the hood and windshield on start up early on cold mornings. It also get pretty smelly in the cabin while cruising around town with the windows down.
With E85 its much cleaner. Just the heat from the exhaust stream fogs passenger window. Holding my hand out holding the door frame i got burned when we did a pull haha.

I was just wondering because you were saying you felt it on the windshield...I was thinking damn that far away if it is a B.
How much would it help spool compared to a full 3" exhaust setup? I'm thinking about stepping up to a .82 ar based larger turbo (I have a .63 exhaust, t04e now) and will probably not like the way it spools. Haha.

I was considering having both, a full exhaust setup and a hood exit. since I planned to be an Autobahn warrior plus once a month track car. but if there are no power benefits its not worth the hassle of changing hood and exhaust every month, since I have to maintain street registration. Gther than the sound of the turbo wining sweet melody are there any true performance benefits?

I did some searching and it looks like my 3" thermal+3" downpipe weigh at least 50lbs so that will be a nice little reduction on my car which already weighs 18xxlbs

I am just rationalizing...I've decided to do it and like in most instances I want to hear reassurance. Anyways, my exhaust and downpipe do (in fact) weigh close to 50lbs and I'm fairly sure it will help with spool times which isn't really an issue for me now.
Not as much as you'd think at those pursue levels .The exhaust backpressure change will be minimal in this particular case whether you're full exhaust or dumping..believe me.

honestly this is the only real thing to worry about or assuming you get caught out in the rain.
