Type R Clutch!!?? WTF??
Ok guys after searching until my fingers have became numb, i still dont have the answer i am looking for.
I have a 97 GSR that i use as my winter ride, and i just recently blew the clutch in it.
A really good friend of mine had a full Type R clutch that he gave me. So what i did was use the disc from the type R and a ACT pressure plate( i had laying around) so i would have good pedal feel.
Any how i put in the disc and pressure plate. then bolted the tranny and everything else back in,but to only find that i cant get the clutch to FULLY DISENGAGE!!!!
If i try to start the car with the clutch in and the car in gear the car just jumps forward.
Now, does anybody know if you are able to use stock OEM clutch parts with after market Pressure plates?
I really need a answer to this as i am pulling it back apart today to either see WTF is going wrong, or just use the OEM type R pressure plate.
Thanks
Brian

Did the clutch disk get put in backwards? There should be no reason a stock disk wouldn't work - ACT sells that as one of their combos don't they?

Should have worked fine together... SOund like youhave other issues... Is the throwout bearing in a bind? Is the throwout bearing mounted backwards? How hard was the tranny to line up? Maybe the input shaft is pushing against the hub of the clutch instead of going through the splines.
Seen it all, done half of it. Anything's possible at this point.

Re: Type R Clutch!!?? WTF?? (SiR Kid)
See that i what i am thinking. I am stumbed at this point , i have done over 100 clutch installs with now problems, and then now this.
The tranny did go in kinda tight, but not to bad. I was able to get it up on the dial pins .
I guess i will haave to **** with it some more to see. I am just glad you guys say it should work with my pressure plate, becaus ei really dont wan the stock type R ****.
So i should check for binding of the main shaft? I guess will loosen the tranny up and see if that helps any then i will slowly bring it back together.
I know the Throw out bearing isnt mounted backwards.
And i know for a fact the disc isnt in back wards!! LOL
Have any of you guys put trannies in with the main shaft not lined up properly?
Thanks
Brian

I'm having the same exact problem with my Civic. I thought the clutch master cylinder was dead, replaced it but it's still not disengaging the clutch. I'm pretty sure it's either the throw outbearing or the PP broke because I can move the fork with my hand but when I let go, the fork retracts (slave cylinder fully extended) which leads me to belive the finger on the plate aren't pushing the fork back.

Re: Type R Clutch!!?? WTF?? (TurbodCX)
Ok just am update for you guys.
I found out what is causing the problem. the main shaft splines had small burrs on the splines from when the last disc was stripped out.
I have to file down the main shaft to make the disc slide smoothly on the main shaft.
I also found out that OEM clutches have alot tighter tolerance on the main shaft splines. I have 3 other AFTER-market disc and i was able to slide them all the way down, and bring it back up smoothly.
But if i tried this with the OEM Type R disc, i could only get it half way on and it would stop. The disc would get very tight on the main shaft splines.
So in conclusion i have found that i am going to have to order another ACT disc in order to get this thing moving again. As i filed on the main shaft last night for a good solid hour or more and still couldn't get it to slide right, but as soon as i tried one of the aftermakret disc it went on and off very smoothly.
More $$$$ I don't have.
