Im wondering if ill have any issue running two different wastegates. MY original setup was a t3 with a single 44mm tial Vband. Now, I'm switching to a twin scroll T4 setup and purchased another tial 44mm MVR. The wastage i already have is different from an MVR, I'm assuming its the model before the MVR came out. Id rather not have to buy another $300+ wastage just to match up the MVR, unless i absolutely have to.
The wastegate outer body just became compact, that's it. As long as you have the correct matching springs for each generation of gate you're using, you should be fine.
What I would do to make sure is to do a characteristic on both gates.
Adjust springs to where you think they will work the same. Then, use an adjustable pressure source (Like a compressor with a regulator you can crank up and down), and obviously connect a pressure guage.
Gates crack at one pressure, then move to fully open at a higher pressure.
Look to see when the gates crack, and when they are fully open. If the characteristics are similar, you're good. If they are substantially different, try tuning the springs for closer operation.
Assuming no boost regulator, the boost pressure will be somewhere between the two pressures.
A difference in operating pressure will induce some imbalance in the engine between the pairs of cylinders.

That would be standard procedure even if you had two gates. So, I understand your being thorough. It just, well.. If there are 2 generations of TiAL gates, and the spring pressure chart is available for both generations, one would start by first ensuring that each generation gate has the desired spring to start off with as a base test. Then one can proceed to test the valve opening events on a separate test apparatus before even mounting them to the manifold.
I guess I just saw too much simplicity in it..

I feel like even if they didn't quite open the same or had different flow characteristics that the better performing gate would just compensate for the under performing gate and everything would be fine any ways.
The PROPER way it to test crack points and have a back pressure sensor on each side of the collector. Then you know for sure what needs to be done to get them in harmony.
