Turbosmart wastegate question
ok so i have the 38mm "street gate" which is the older version of the ultra gate.
It came with a 7lb spring, i just dont know if that is an outer spring or an inner spring? havent opened it up... because of lack of tools but ill be picking those up soon...
anyway.. the ULTRA gate comes with a 7lb outer so if you want to add a 5lb inner and run both at the same time for 12lbs total you can (from my understanding)
i want to order the 5lb inner so i can do just that.. i want to run 12lbs... not confident enough to run 14lbs (single 14lbs spring) on a daily basis but i think my motor (lsvtec ,gsr girdle, arp rod bolts, shot peened rods) will be able to handle 12lbs on a daily basis for sure obviously with a really good tune (which will be done right after im done with the car, its getting towed straight to the dyno)
I just figured someone probably has some experience with these wastegates etc
thanks ahead of time for the help

Re: Turbosmart wastegate question
why not keep the lower spring in it and use a boost controller, will be able to do boost by gear and have traction down low

Re: Turbosmart wastegate question
its funny you mentioned nolimit because i ordered a wastegate spring a month ago and still dont have it, im calling customer service today lol
im not sure weather i need a manual controller or an electronic
found out the 7lbs spring is an outer spring so i can get the 5lbs inner, i just dont know if thatll make the car spool quicker/slower etc.. from what i understand it changes the characteristics a bit when you run 2 springs versus 1
if someone could tell me how to go about the different amounts of boost in different gears, that would be awesome, maybe recommend a controller or whatever, there are a million controllers and i dont even know what im lookin for
thanks for the help

Re: Turbosmart wastegate question
there are many ways to do it. some engine managements have cntrols built in and you can get a solinoid. or you can just get a dual stage MBC and the second stage will be on a powered toggle switch. you can get an EBC and have several stages. there is a cheap in cabin boost controller on ebay liek 90 bucks i think and its basically a solinoid with a duty cycle turn **** that allows you to adjust boost on the go from inside the car but that wont do stages thats manually turning BUT its also got on and off so you can do wastegate spring in lower gears and the flip on the power and run highe rboost for higher gears

Re: Turbosmart wastegate question
idk if crome pro has pwm boost control, switch over to s300 over neptune or ectune and get a boost solenoid (aem ect) and go with boost by gear by rpm
when a car is tuned it should have been tuned starting at the lowest boost and then turning it up, if its tuned for 12 psi you will need to go back and fine tun 7 (or 5) and then get the pwm(boost control via pulse width modulation) hooked up and start turning the boost up slowly
then you could run
5psi in first
7-10 in second
12+ in third etc
basically you want the lowest spring you can get and with the electronic boost controller turn it up in every gear so you get maximum power and traction
