Turbosmart MBC not working
I recently tried upping my boost from the 8 psi spring in the wastegate and I'm having some issues. I first tried using a simple $9.00 boost tee off ebay and when I hooked it up, i was never able to control my boost. No matter where I set the dial on it, the car would go up beyond 15 psi every time I ran up the throttle. I figured that it was probably my own fault for buying a piece of **** boost controller, so I ordered in a Turbosmart Boost Tee last week. I hooked it up last night following the instructions that came on the mini cd with it, and the car is doing the exact same thing. The turbosmart tee is idiotproof and tells you which way to turn the dial to turn it down, yet the car goes to 15+ every time. Now, I will mention that I do have a cheap Tial style 35mm knockoff from eBay which I've had no issues with. I did the turbo set up when I was in university so I bought some cheap parts along the way. Is the wastegate junk and won't allow me to run an MBC? There's no cracks in any of my vacuum lines from what I can tell.
Here's a pic of my set up. Note: this is just a temporary set up to see if it works before you guys all flame me for the way it looks.
Also note that the upper vacuum line from the wastegate isn't hooked up to anything. It vents at the back of the engine bay.

Re: Turbosmart MBC not working (ZCboost)
I think you need a lighter spring in the gate. The boost T will bypass air so you can increase boost but you can never get lower boost than the spring.

Re: Turbosmart MBC not working (ZCboost)
I think what he is trying to do is up the boost.
I am having this same problem with my turbosmart boost tee.
There is something about taking the ball and spring out of the boost controller in the instructions, but that doesnt make any sense to me.
When I was just running of just the gate I was boosting to .6bar like the spring was suppose to do, then when I put the controller in, it would just go to unlimited boost like there was no spring in the gate.

I had a turbosmart dual stage mbc on my car for like 2 days and couldnt get it to work for ish, so after a couple close calls nearly blowing the car up due to off the charts boost spikes, i pulled it back off... had a .9 bar spring in the gate, turned 2 clicks and went to like 2.5bar lol

how do you change the pressure differential with those MBC? Is there a screw or something. I have a turboxs MBC and when I have it screwed to the lowest setting I can blow through it and tell there is not much of a pressure drop. B/c the system is over boosting means the pressure differential is too high. Do you have a boost cut setup on your ECU? Be careful if you don't b/c you know what can happen..

Cut some coils out of the spring, You need to take some tension off of it!
Keep doing it untill you start to notice it working!

Re: (I.C.C.)
No I haven't. I've tried just about everything I could to make it work and had no luck. I'm convinced my Tial knockoff won't allow it to work. Oh well. I'll buy a bigger psi spring I guess....

I have a MBC from turbosmart too.
Mine get's crazy boost creep when you first floor it but it's okay after that. I dont understand why.
It's set at 9psi... when I floor it it hits the boost cut at 13psi and then comes back down to 9psi thru all the gears after that.

I've had problems with numorous Turbosmarts. For whatever reason (I must be an idiot) I kept buying new ones. I finally got one that worked and controlled boost very accurately. It just died yesterday (about 6-9 months later) and boost was back to being out of control. I took the vacuum lines off and sprayed out in the internal passages with brake cleaner and then some WD-40. It works fine now albeit 1psi higher than I previously had it set.
I've come to the simple conclusion that they are in fact garbage. If only someone else would make a nice accurate click style controller.
