Turbonetics t3/t4
Inherited a turbo says turbonetics on it 60-1 hifi I believe. It is polished trying to find out if stock or if has been modified. How do I go about finding out what the specs are on the turbo looks new with red caps on ends.

Re: Turbonetics t3/t4
60-1 "HiFi", only means that it's using a larger exhaust wheel than the standard one which was ok. They can do about 600whp at over 25psi or so. At the time those were made, Turbonetics was still a, major distributor of Garrett. Cast wheel, nice assembly, but rather on the large size for any D-series.
So..Not modified, just decent

I was reading people change size of wheels inside to change turbo. How do I find out if stock sizes are in it? Or should I assume is stock? What is value of polished 60-1 hifi stock turbo

Re: Turbonetics t3/t4
It's stock. I remember putting these on systems back in 2001.
Trust me, they weren't modified in any way. The good part is at a time when many Turbonetics were falling from bad shaft construction, these always held because they used a different size turbine shaft (larger) from the factory.. You're good to go.

If I was looking to sell it what would be a fair price? I am so new to this stuff. Have few boxes full of parts almost all new in box this is one of the parts. I dont have a use for this stuff so looking to identify items and there value. When I become a member will list stuff for sale but need to know what I have first.

Re: Turbonetics t3/t4
take the cover off the inlet, we definitely can't tell anything from a generic housing photo.
it's 99% probable that it's a shelf Turbonetics turbo that hasn't been modified in any way. Your average person doesn't have the knowledge or parts to modify a turbocharger and they were very capable turbochargers when they were released and still make decent power so there isn't much of a point to modifying one.

Yep. unmodified P-trim exhaust wheel in a .82A/R Ford Style 5 bolt turbine housing. Looks pretty "Time Machine" mint for a unit that was made over 14 years ago.
As for "value". That's tough to say, if you're trying to see "what it will go for" (based upon today's market, choices, options, request for this unit, etc.. ), you're going to struggle to find out. Because it's the buyer that has changed.. They can get items from eBay, competitive shops, Amazon, Turbonetics directly, etc,so they may not have the appreciation as one as myself would see.
Official Literature From Turbonetics 2002 catalog.
"Representing the careful marriage of a unique high flow/ high efficiency compressor section teamed up
with a T4 turbine section, the 60-1 has proven itself in every competitive motorsport application from drag
racing to Bonneville. Available with either the standard (4" inlet, 2.5" discharge) compressor housing or the
60-1 Hi-Fi (2 3/4" inlet, 2" discharge)
compressor housing, the 60-1 will
outflow any standard T04B with ease!
(The 60-1 Hi-Fi will deliver approximately
90-95% of the flow capacity of the
standard 60-1.)"
These used a Bronze 360* Thrust bearing system
60-1 SERIES TURBOCHARGERS
MODEL PRICE CODE
60-1 Hi-Fi Std Shaft Turbo HA
60-1 Hi-Fi Big Shaft HB
60-1 Hi-Fi Big Shaft Ceramic Ball Bearing HC
60-1 Hi-Fi Std Shaft Turbo HD
60-1 Std Shaft HE
60-1 Big Shaft HF
60-1 Big Shaft, W / Q-trim Turbine Wheel HG
60-1 Big Shaft Ceramic Ball Bearing HJ
60-1 Big Shaft Ceramic Ball Bearing, w/ Q-trim Turbine Wheel HK
The larger exhaust wheel of these were in P-trim and Q-trim and were a bit more durable. Only way to tell is the measurement of the turbine wheel inducer / exducer. The turbo is actually a pretty fast mover on a good 1.8-2.3 litre engine, and would be a great street turbo combination on a b-series, F-series, or K-series. I would NOT put this on any D-series.
For the Turbonetics "Faithful"
Those were about $1083, and were popular back about 12 years ago (think 2003).
No one will pay that of course, unless they were truly wanting this specific turbocharger and nothing else.
For H-T and other buyers
You're Bantha Fodder. IF you get $600 in brand new condition consider yourself lucky. These were capable of about 550whp at their maximum, and are great for sitting in tight spaces because of the T04B compressor cover. But people are cheap, and if you want to Brush it off just to get a few bucks than cool. But don't sell it off to get a Precision turbo; you'll make a really decent situation you're in turn in to one that is much worse.
Option 3
You CAN have the wheels swapped out by a good Garrett Dealer (who Turbonetics used to use for their parts), and turn something you can't use, into possibly something you CAN, with minimal cost. It's an older Garrett, so it wouldn't be to bad to do. (I know I've done those before).
Let me know if you want to know more about it. I have great memories of these turbos.

Re: Turbonetics t3/t4
What is value of it in todays market? I have lots of pipes that are with it all look new was in big box, but i know nothing about it so i assume all the pipes and coupling are for this turbo. Need to know what its worth. Can lay pipes out and take picture if someone can tell me what i have and value.

I'd say no more than 5-600 bucks for just the turbo, but that's pushing it...throw it up on eBay or the forums, overprice it and encourage lowballers.

The problem is that even though the turbo itself isn't modified. The compressor cover is, so that's where the lower value will fall.
