Turbonetics/garrett
Okay so I had an old gsr turbo set up with one of thoe xs power turbos...I just bought a turbocharger with a turbonetics hot side and a garrett cool side. In the center theres the usual oil inlet and outlet.but now this turbocharger has 2 more threaded holes.Im guessing this is for liquid cooling,am I right? If it is do you have to run some kind of liquid cooler through it or will it run fine without it.my old turbo didnt have it.and if it is not a cooler channel then what is it? thanks

Yes, thoughs holes are for coolant. I recommend using them because usually companies will void there warranties if you don't use them. At least that is how it is with my Percision GT35R.

You are wrong. Those are the ports for Nitrous and Meth injection. Apparently you didn't get one of the newest turbos, those have a 3rd port for blinker fluid.
Yes, its for water cooling. Cheap turbos don't always have them. The main diff is that after a hard run or a 15min+ drive, you don't have to let it idle for 2-3 mins to cool the turbo down. But thats assuming you use the cooling holes. It may run a bit hotter than the old turbo if you don't.

I should have said cheapER version (as in there's usually the $$ option to add cooling passages), and then mentioned that drag turbos don't have enough time to get hot enough to seize up.
If you think any vehicle is going to use a 1000whp turbo for an extended amount of time, I think you're crazy. I'm sure you know what heat soak is, and no GT55R will be run long enough to suffer from it, or not given enough time to cool between usages. Besides that, the main issue is the amount of fuel used, but there's also drivetrain stress and overall heat (not just that of the turbo). When you do have one that's used for more than a minute, they will usually be babied, and allowed to cool before cutting the engine. The only time they won't is when its a lead-footed SFWD owner who is too lazy to swap out his turbo for the street.
