turboing a b16
i've been looking around a bunch and i just want to piece together a decent turbo kit. this is what i've gotten so far:
turbonetics t3/t4 housing t60-1 hifi turbo
crappy no name manifold til i can afford a better one
rc 440cc injectors
fmu that i wanna sell so i can get a hondata s300
apexi neo afc wanna sell it too to help get that hondata
greddy type s bov
no name intercooler piping
no name downpipe for now too
38 mm wastegate with a 6.5lb spring
faze boost gauge
fpr regulator
gonna get a walbro 255lph fuel pump soon
all the oil lines and stuff.
basically everything to my knowledge that i need for a turbo kit besides an intercooler. this is my first turbo kit too so im not sure what im missing.
first off i plan to run stock internals. i did a leakdown test and it was only at like 6% all the way across the board. not to sure what it should be at but it looked good to me. compression was at about 183 give or take a few across the board too. i plan to only run 6.5 psi since the block is stock. and i wanna push out about 225-250 to the wheels if possible.
so i have a couple questions.
1. is that turbo to big for my application? i think its a .60 trim but i cant remember off hand. i bought it off my friend who had it on his talon. its a ceramic ball bearing turbo.
2. is there anything else im missing? i know a wideband would probably be a good idea but its a little to spendy right now.
thanks

dont get a turbonetics, they suck *****, i have one with less than 3k on it and its blowing smoke, another friend is in the same boat, and another friend just picked up a GTk and its smoked 3 days later...
also get bigger injectors, at least 550cc

For a stock internal B16, that turbo is too big. Unless you like having a short powerband and extra lag, i would suggest getting something else. Next on the list of things to change would be the injectors. I would go with at least a 550cc unless you are never going to make more than 275whp. Thirdly, get rid of the FMU and get rid of the A'pexi AFC...buy a chipped P28 and run Crome. Its cheap and will do everything you need.
You should post pictures of the manifold you have...if its what i'm thinking, it may not even be worth using.
What size exhaust do you plan to run? Also, even though the block is stock, you make more power if you want to; therefore, investing in a cheap boost controller might not be a bad idea. I'm making 315whp on stock...

turbo is a little big for 6psi, but will work in the future for when you want to make more power. Though, turbonetics turbos are notorious for eating seals when the return isn't perfect.
Look into putting on a MBC, and ditch the FMU. Bigger injectors never hurt, so 550's or bigger will be alright, just make sure you take it to a good tuner.

Where do you plan on taking this car to get tuned? That turbo will be terrible for 6psi, but for 10 plus, it should be alright. For a "cheap" manifold, I would look into a log, and not an ebay setup.

There are a few guys on HT that know a ton about tuning. If you contact one of them (xenocron, pherable, j-k tuning) they will be able to help you out with your ECU needs.
Also, i wouldnt run that manifold because your'e just asking for trouble. Try and sell it while you're selling the turbo. If you're on a budget, log manifolds are cheap. If you're really in need of a turbo setup ASAP, i have a cheap on that will get you boosted in the meantime...its nothing you'll want to flaunt to your friends, but it WILL do the trick...pm me if you're interested

Re: (Schister66)
it is a log style manifold. i forgot to write this before but im gonna be running 2.5 in exhaust i think. i was planning on bringing it somewhere here in minnesota but not to sure where. maybe db performance or whatever that one here is. not to sure where though. that manifold isnt worth selling even. its crap. my friend was using it on his turbo ls though and runnign 12.5's with an ebay kit haha. he got lucky. would my block be able to handle the 10 psi+ given the psi and leakdown numbers? it burns oil now but im pretty sure its just the valve guides. i changed the seals and it kinda helped but it still burns. thanks
