Default Turbo? Yes / No

I have a Eg6 Si and I was wondering whether or not i should add a turbo to it. The motor itself has around 100,000 miles on it. Its a b16a " first gen" do you recommend i add the turbo and take it off when my engine blows? Or should i just replace the whole motor w/ a turbo kit. Thanks

What do you want to do? If you have a EG6 i would just leave it alone.

Boost is always fun. 100K isn't bad, it isn't good. Check everything out, if its still strong, throw a FI set on. No need in spending money on another motor. unless you just want to run massive ammounts of boost, and use the other as a quick replacement.

i boosted my motor with 90k milkes on it (d16z6). i did a compression test 3k miles ago and read ~200psi across the board, so age doesnt necessarily mean poorer than new performance and i drove the turbo kit non-intercooled and no BOV for 1.5 years before i installed both. greddy turbo kit

Yeah, because boosting with no intercooler is the only way to be low profile... Also, it's not the least bit inefficent...

I'm boosted at 130k (have put close to 25k on the turbo setup) and BauleyCivic just got himself boosted at right about 180k. Compression test it, and if everything looks good, boost.

If you keep the grill and paint the intercooler black it's not that bad.

the learning curve for boost is steep, and expensive...

What are you guys pushing from 7 psi horsepower wise?

I was tempted by a bolt-on GReddy kit intercooled and ran at 5psi but many tuners in the UK put me off simply because of the torque stress on the engine and transmission.

7psi for most set-ups should be somewhere around 50-60 hp

Cars aren't cheap, if you want fast, theres no questions about it...turbo!
i would just turbo it then when something goes bad just rebuild it.

That's not good advise. I've seen whole motors ruined over forced induction. Who has money to spend like that. It's always better to know your limits, and if you want to step past those limits you should do some upgrading first.

1.B. Posting of topics relating to forced induction (N20, Turbo, SC) in EG+ Civic / Del Sol is not allowed. We have an entire forum dedicated to forced induction.

Forced induction doesnt kill motors...people who dont know what they are doing usually destroy motors. While there are some rare cases where a motor is tuned and still blows is the exception not the rule. Turbo is the most cost efficient way to gain power in teh long run. Nitrous has a lower initial entry cost but refilling your bottel will add up. So anyway I say boost it. D series are easy to come by and I assume that is what you have so it isnt like you would have spend thousands of dollars for anoyher longblock

People, people.. Intercooler helps prevent detonation... That's like saying that only gurgling water and not using a toothbrush keeps your teeth clean..
