You can build a pretty nice kit on a SOHC for the price most people are paying for the stock b-series engines, not to mention everything needed to swap it in.

I have the greddy kit. I love it. I was thinking about building a custom kit but decided against it since I NEED my car to be reliable, which it is still very reliable with the greddy kit.
to the greddy kit.

i have a fmax kit from before turbonetics bought them out and i have been very happy with it. i run 9 psi and run a act extreme clutch presure plate and lightened flywheel. also have msd 6btm. and mf2 mappable injection driver.and aem tru power pulleys. the car has been running good and strong on all stock bottom end for over a year now. and daily driven best of 13.92at 103. so in my opinion a soch 99ex coupe would make a good turbo car.
My cousin (H-T name is peiku) recently had an Apexi kit on his d16z6 in a 92 VX hatch (stock block, DHR port polish head, Zex camshaft, Hondata, & Greddy SP 2.5 catback), boosted @ 6psi w/9psi creep around 6k. Dynoed in at 210hp. Ran a 13.0 on baby slicks, and a 12.9 w/race gas. Pretty rare to find an APexi kit, but it's a nice kit. From what I've seen around here, Greddy kits don't produce much, but that's just here. I'm sure there are Greddy kits out there putting down decent numbers. If I were you, do some more research if you think about a homemade kit, it'll cost you alot less. The biggest thing is FUEL MANAGEMENT! I'd advise you to spend the money on something like Hondata, or if funding is short, try the VAFC hack...
Check out some of the dyno sheets here if anyone thinks that the greddy kit isnt any good. http://turbod16.com/viewtopic.php?t=4140
