Default Turbo si idle problems

Hey whats up guy, I know you guys are awsome at this so heres my problem. I have a 99 civic si that has a greddy turbo kit. Its tuned with hondata s300 and it was tuned by redline in arlington. My problem is at idle it revs to 1500 cold and then surges from 1k to 3k. Ive checked my vacuum lines and looked at everything that could have vibrated loose. Please help! thanks

since you have checked all your vacuum lines, having bad grounds could cause idle issues similar to what you are experiencing.

you can also try cleaning out your IACV (idle air control valve) with brake cleaner. if that is clogged, it will cause idle problems as well. you would most likely be throwing a code if your IACV is clogged but its worth a shot.

If you have the FITV under the throttle body. Check that and get back to us.

I dont have the fitv . Its just throttle body then IM and nothing. But I did notice my distributer had a bolt missing, one backed almost off and the top one was loose. So I guess when redline tuned it the stupid asses didnt tighten the bolts back down. So I moved it but it still surges real bad. I guess ill have to take it in to get it timed and see what they say the problem is. Damn ha ha I was trying to avoid takin it up there.

Nice S/N.

If it were a bad IACV, you would throw a CEL eventually. Since you're not, try replacing it anyways. Only other thing I could think of is a vacuum leak.

If you have a laptop with SManager and the datalogging cable, you can actually disable IACV error yourself.

That would cause your timing to be thrown off. I would get it set back ASAP, and i wouldnt drive hard at all with it like that.

Lol. Charles same thing came to mind. Sorry I didn't get back to you this week, super busy.

OP:

Has this always happened since the car was tuned? Or did the car just start doing it. If it's the latter, take off your IACV and clean the screen. Should clear everything up. If it was the problem from the beginning, your tune is the problem.

ha ha thank you sir. You too. Well It started like 2 weeks ago and I just kept driving it cuz it still runs great just not at idle. But I tried to drive it today and it learned a new trick. It wont go past 20 mph or 3k rpm. So I guess I need to haul it off to the shop..

new trick huh? lol. my car likes to learn lots of new tricks

what do you mean by wont go over 20mph? does it not have power to get past 20mph or is it sputtering/missfiring so bad that it wont? if its sputtering/missing then it could be that one of the components or sensors in your distributor had gone bad.

before you go take it to the shop, switch out your dizzy with a friends and see if that solves your problem.

i have gone thru idle problems similar to yours a couple of times, and now that i think about it, the first time i had the same idle problem as you was because of my ignitor in my dizzy had gone bad. i switched out my craped out GSR dizzy with a dizzy from a CTR engine that my buddy had laying in his garage and problem solved

one more thing i forgot to add. if on of your sensors have taken a **** on you then you will throw a code in most cases. now if lets say your ignitor goes bad, you wont throw one most likely (dont hold me to that but mine didnt at least). i hope this helps!

Well it will rev up like normal. It pulls and drives like normal and it feels like it hits super fuel cut and wont let me give it any gas until I push the clutch in. Ill check the dizzy and see if thats it. And no its full on coolant. Man... what a pain ha ha. Maybe my S300s tune some how messed up? Like 2 days before it started doing this I killed a gt mustang with a couple mods so it was running really good. If I can get home before it gets dark ill change out the dizzy with a friend and get back to ya'll. Oh btw thank you guys for the help so far!

that is a possibility. the last time my car was tuned, my idle was going from 1k to 1.5k back in forth. after my tuner was finished tuning, my idle was perfect at 1k.

so yeah my 3rd tune had perfect idle and just one day it started fluctuating out of nowhere. somehow my tune got thrown off a little bit. i just delt with it for a few months till i got tuned for the 4th time and no more idle problems.

DONE! I got it fixed finally. My TPS sensor gave out and that caused it to not go over 2k rpms. So hopefully someone with the same problem will search this up and this can help them. Thanks for everyone that helped me out!

Cool man. Glad you got it running good. You would think that the TPS sensor would have thrown a code so you wouldnt have had to take it to a shop
