Which Turbo should I go with for my d16?
I'm going to build up a custom turbo for my d16. I want a fast spooling turbo, but I don't want it to be too small it doesn't put out much power. I would like this project to be reasonably affordable, but I'll spend the money that it takes to make it safe for my engine. Im planning on running my set up on stock internals as well. I'm looking to get 50-60 hp and I'll be using an intercooler as well. A few options I have looked at was the T3, 14B, and T25. What's your advice?

Seriously...everyone and their mom wants a 500whp 1900 lb. hatch that runs high 10's for less than $3,000 in mods. Welcome to H-T.

The new 19T kits for the 96-00 Civics look really good, if u have the cash can't go wrong with the elbrocks kits
for custom
19T 15G or T3 will all give u the 50hp gain ur looking for at just over 7 psi

lots of options. T3 is a good one for quick spool but it will stop producing power in higher rpms. You could run a T3/4 set up and get very similar spool and more pull up to stock rev of 7600. I was running a T3 super60 which is for sale and needs rebuilding(good parts in the housings). It had great low to mid response and power, but the build of power stoped. My new turbo is going into testing soon. A T04E .60 a/r with a .63 trim exhaust and stage 3 wheels. Should be spooling around 2800-3300 letting me some damn traction(big problem with the T3, but fun) and build boost well. It flows almost twice the amount of air, so the slower spool will be made up for greatly in air volume which is more important. The 15g also seems popular for entry level kits, so look around the options mentioned and remember to research a lot.

im sorry but a t3 does not stop making power in the high rpms.....i made 205whp @ 6psi at 7000 rpms and it was still pulling hard.....it doesnt spool that fast on a d16 about 3500 and doesnt start pulling hard till like 4500 when it hits the effiency range then it pulls way hard on top....it was a 60 trim (not a super 60), i only made 160 ft lbs of torque which isnt all that impressive, so i dunno bout what yur sayin...i lose traction but not till the top of the gears when the power comes in strong.....My 2 cents, The T3 60 trim is an excellent turbo for the d16, the effiency range matches up good for the motor, i researched for months and looked at every flo chart till i figured that the 60 was my best bet.....makes awesome power, i was stunned when i put down 205...especially at 6psi, it was stunning

street: 15G, 19T, T-25, T-28... bunch of others... most factory sized turbos or slightly larger are good no sohc's
street/race: 16G, 18G, T3 60-trim
step above: T3/T04E 46 or 50 trim, 20G (only saying that cause I know Civic_TSi runs one)

I have a 96 hatch with d16y8 and im using greddy kit with the tdo4 turbo.
I moded the exhaust maniold (port matched) to fit the y8 head. greedy e manage for fuel management and a greddy intercooler 10 psi. And a couple of other bolt on mods, 170 horse to the ground.

170whp @ 10psi? if so you should see about tuning it or something is restricting power. i've easily seen 200whp @ 10psi on a greddy turbo. setup. hell i made almost 200whp @ 8psi (although on a bigger turbo)
