Turbo selection
It's been awhile since I been on here, i'm in Iraq right now plottin on my engine build lol. Got a question for everyone.. I'm looking at putting down 550whp on an ITR. The engine and its components aren't in question here, its only which turbo I should go with. I was originally looking at the GT35R, but my friendly neighborhood tuner shop suggested the Borg Warner S366. I've been looking at different sites and trying to compare turbos, but being here in the land of sand my online time is rather limited and searching for said things is quite time consuming. I figured my friends here at HT would probably have some suggestions to save time and steer me into a solid choice based on dyno or previous build designs.
I think I might be able to help narrow a few things down. I'll PM you this evening. you have a LOT of options.
What you need to ask is if you want 550whp on 93+ octane or Race Gas, or even E85.
What is your budget to spend?
what is your preference on bearing system?
I'll send you these pronto.

Thanks for the help.. I'm looking at 550 on race fuel, but i'll be taking the civic to italy with me next season and i'm not sure how difficult it'll be to acquire that high of an octane w/o jerkin some agip guy off for it. So I understand lower numbers with 93-100, but my build is for 550 on race fuel. As for my budget, I've got 20k set aside for completion. That includes alot of parts, not just the engine. The 35r and the s366 aren't too far apart pricewise last i checked, so I would say roughly that pricerange. If its a little more, its not a big problem, I've already figured in about a 5k cushion if i need it. Ball bearing is preferred..
im not a turbo expert like theshodan by any means, but ive heard nothing but good things about borg and precision. My next turbo will most likely be a precision billet. I may stray from Garrett turbochargers now after reading the disturbing letter of them selling out to a cheap chinese company for turbo manufacturing. I hope thats not true but hey who knows.
GL though!

The fuels in that part of the world typically have a higher octane rating. You'll have to look, but I think you can get E85 out there too. If so, make the connversion and dont look back. The S366 is an 80+ pound per minute turbo - plenty capable of getting you to 550whp...you can also do that on a BEP CompR62 if you wanted better street manners.
Good luck!
Good luck!
I am personally running the Precision 6765 billet and I like it, it's a little laggy till 5,500 then the boost really builds. I would prolly stick to the 6262 billet, my friend has it on his setup and made 520 on pump @ 19psi... Great turbo's look into them!!
Was looking into the billet s-gt3 and r-gt3 for comparison to the 35r. My set plan for the build is 550 to the ground, but will be tuning it back so i can actually keep my wheels on the ground (been there). I'm looking at around 350 for driving to shows and tracks.., maybe to the store
But overall, it'll be kept on a short leash so I don't trash it too much. When i do put it to speed, i'll be racing some high-end euro sports cars and more than likely on wide open strips, so mid-to-high level has to be excellent, even if my lower spool isn't as responsive. As for the E85 swap, I don't see me doing that anytime soon. While it may be easily obtainable over there, I can promise you it's not in the south where I visit my family, or in some of the other places the military may decide to up and send me. I'll be looking at the higher octanes and race fuels though, thanks for the input!

if you want ball bearing i would get a billet unit from precision or one of the billet units from

your options from FP is the HTA gt3586r which is good for 750whp maxed and costs 1749$, the HTA gt3582r is 1700$ not sure the most power you can get out of it but im thinking in the 650-700 area maxed out, i know its not much less than the 3586r
you may also want to consider the HTA3076r its good for about 575 maxed out and if this car is going to be driven ALOT this would make a much better quicker spooling option that i would definately look into if your sure you won't more power than you said
if 550whp is the max your looking to make then it makes sense to use the smallest turbo you can that will still make 550 because you will have less lag
if your looking for something cheaper but still reliable and still makes power the holset HE351VE can be had for less than 500$ usually
83mm 10:1 JE
159mm Rosten
95.5mm BEW
AEB cylinder head
HE351VE
here is a dyno of this setup It's a VW and the AEB head is the best flowing stock 1.8t head, it flows just a little more than an ls head for comparison sakes, this would have made more power if it had not had stock cams as they are SUPER MILD

so really you have turbo options that can do what you want ranging in price from less than 500$ up to 2000$ lots and lots of options
if it was personally my choice i would get the HTA3076r

Which is perfectly fine if I'm looking to go to the 650-700hp range. My setup is for peak performance at 550-560. If/when I look to do more than that, I'll be doing more modifications to support that. For now, and the next 5 years, my build is 550whp. after this build is done, the next few years will be spent on the interior and exterior of the car getting it ready for shows. And yes, in the meantime I'll be running her here and there because being a pretty showpiece is nice, but if you can't enjoy it why put the money into it? There's so many turbos to choose from, thats why I'm asking around because I can't do alot of in-depth research from here. So far ya'll have given me some pretty good choices, just gotta narrow them down to what I really want for this projekt. And please, if you have suggestions, toss them into the mix and I'll look them up! Thanks again for everyone's help.
Definately 6262 Billet ball bearing. Just did one like the above 19psi 507whp on 93 octane/dynojet. It was normal 84mm LS/VTEC. Should be fine for over 650 to the wheels and it spools very well.
