turbo recommendation for B18C1
I'm aiming for around 230hp crank on a B18C1 upgraded rods, pistons, valve springs, etc but I don't want something that spools too quickly as it will be my daily driver and I wouldn't mind having some semblance of decent gas mileage... I've been reading that a T3/T04E should fit the bill, but I don't know what I should be looking at for compressor trim and A/R. Any help for a turbo virgin?

For 230HP @ the crank, you don't even need to upgrade the internals of your motor. A T3/T04E .50/.57 trim will work fine for your setup. Those turbos hit full boost early, tho. I actually have a T3/T04E .50 trim sitting around with very minimal shaft play.

The block actually came with an LS crank, eagle rods, mahle pistons already. I may go higher than 230 in the future and don't want to be doing this all over again if/when I do. How early we talking for it hitting full boost?

I will spend what it costs... It would be nice to stay under 700 though. Lets say full boost around 5k, what should I be looking for?

Re: turbo recommendation for B18C1
I have a lot of friends that run Holset turbos from Cummins diesel trucks and love them. They're extremely reliable, cheap ($200-$350), and they hit max spool around 4500-5500 rmps depending on which one you get. Most of my friends use the Holset HX35. The HY35 spools a little sooner.

Haha I don't even think an HX35 would fit in my car.. I'd def have to buy a smaller radiator. This is something I would do simply for the WTF factor. Don't know if it would be too efficient for my plans though.
