Just picked up a garrett t3/t4 60 trim off of HT and I just checked it for shaft play and have some questions I am not familiar with.

Most of my turbos have had some shaft play but this one I got in the mail has in and out play, not much maybe an 1/8" but its there. The guy said it did not smoke on the car and spooled fine, the turbo spins freely so do I have much of a concern to worry about?

 

If you just purchased a used turbo, the first thing you should have done was looked into a rebuild kit. I wouldn't even purchase a motor on here without looking into a rebuild first, which is just common sense. Who knows how many miles are actually on the turbo? spend the extra cash, rebuild, and bam- close to new again.

 

well a rebuild kit isn't a concern I can get that no problem, I am just worried if a rebuild kit will fix in and out play. Like I said all the turbos I have had its only been side to side and a rebuild kit has fixed that problem.

I don't want to spend 75 for a rebuild kit if it doesn't fix it, this being the reason for the post.
