turbo preparation
i pulled my future block from the junk yard today.
b18b.
i am aiming for low crompression turbo build. i want high 200 to low 300 horsepower. I would love to run as much boost as possible. lol
a little boost crazy.
I am going to sleeve.
and am going to bore and hone.
im wondering wat kind of internals would support my want for "a lot of boost"
also its going to b my DD so ill prolly keep it around 7 psi on street but i wanna be able to turn it up a lot at the track.

Wow...i'm not sure where to start on this one. You need to do a little research before going forward with your build because a lot of what you listed is unnecessary for your goal of upper 200 to low 300whp. For those goals, a stock block will suffice.

Wow...i'm not sure where to start on this one. You need to do a little research before going forward with your build because a lot of what you listed is unnecessary for your goal of upper 200 to low 300whp. For those goals, a stock block will suffice.

yes, the stock block can roughly hold to 250.
but i would rather be safe than sorry

The stock block can withstand more power than that. For example, i had a 315whp stock block GSR for two years...i'm currently rebuilding it for more power. The reliability factor in most turbo builds stems from two things: the tune and the quality of parts used in the build.
With your power goals, i would not call you "boost crazy." Mikey is boost crazy...just look at those power #'s in his sig

don't forget the condition of the motor itself

True...that does play a large role. A healthy engine can sustain the abuse...checking the engine's condition is a must before doing anything boost related.

so it would be unnecesary to sleeve.
my budget is around 2500 to 3000.
i was planning on a lot for the sleeves,
wat area do u think i should focus on mainly for a ls/v turbo.
and i am fine with aiming for more whp

the motor shop i am going to be dealing with. wants to bore the motor.
he said 30 over.
im not sure this is necesary,
nowhere in my reading has anyone mentioned their bore..?

You want to keep your bore on the small side for the saftey of your stock sleeves. Maybe 81.5mm-82mm. Are your cylinder walls in good shape? Spend the money on quality turbo and fueling parts.

the block i pulled today is in great shape.
the odometer said 168xxx but its plain to see that the motor was redone recently.
i took the man who will be doing my motor work with me
the point where the head bolts up it still clean metal. the intake mani (which was left) was brand new. may have even been ported.
he cylnander walls are still circular, not ovaled out, and look to be clean.
81.5 mm bore?
that wouldnt be too much
thats one thing i dont know much about and need to search.
i was told by a friend who i turboed that depending on the bore that sleeving would help tremendously (i bring it up repeatdlty becuase its wat ive been planning on fora while)
but im thinkn forged internals, any good brands come to mind?

$2500-3000 is going to be a stretch for a decent turbo setup, let alone an engine build...unless i read that wrong.
Keep the bore as small as possible with stock sleeves. Seeing as the engine had a lot of miles, i would overbore to 81.5mm, but NOT A BIT FURTHER. Forced Induction on 82mm stock sleeves will result in a cracked sleeve without a doubt.
Search the Forced Induction FAQ at the top...many of your questions would be answered by a few minutes worth of searching.

6 psi of boost on your stock internals should be more to suffice for the 'put u back in the seat' kick when you hit boost. If u live in a big city where its really crowded do you need that much power?

Boost is irrelevant, but something in the upper 200 to low 300whp range would be more than enough for 99% of people on the road. I really dont think most people are responsible enough to handle that much responsibility.
