Default Turbo Oil Contamination

I had this problem twice wiht my turbo so says precision. I just had to send it back for a rebuild the second time, this time with only 200 miles on the turbo. What am I doing wrong....its on a freshly rebuilt motor, I have the oil feed off a greddy sandwich filter adapter running -4an line( I had it off the oil sending unit last time but decided to change after the first rebuild), -10 an line for the drain. The guy at precision said its not being filtered, but how is that possible.....anybdy have this problem?

you can buy an earls inline oil filter pre-turbo inlet, cost about 30bucks and is rebuildable/cleanable. metal filter element, mine hasnt seen much use but it would surely pick up anything my main oil filter may have missed.

That's total BS. if that is what would cause the turbos to go bad then how come 90% of all the other people on here don't have blown turbos too?

are you running a oil restricter? if not then the turbo is getting too much pressur and it's blowing by the seals and ruining them. only some turbos(some of the Gt series) have build in oil restricters so if it's not one of those, chances are your blowing the seals out with too much pressire.

but the line about oil filtering, is 100% BS.

All it is, is there way of not having to warrenty it...... I bet even if you had a inline filter they will still say the same thing.... If you think about all the turbo trucks out there, none of them have inline filters and they dont blow there seals and what not and they are also not running oil restricters either

i also have my turbo @ precision its a gt35r and when he called me too let me know it was under warrenty he asked if i was using a restrictor or not i told him i was unsure and they gave me 1 for free they also recommended that i use a -3 feed line!

He told me not to use an oil restrictor and he says that me runnnig -4an wouldnt cause the turbo to blow either. I just cant figure out why it went bad after 200 miles....

greddy sandwich adapters have feed ports for the turbo that is not filtered oil.. the only sandwich adapters ive seen that have feed ports that have filtered oil is GE's.

greddy = not filtered oil. those ports are for oil pressure sensors/temp.. not to feed ur turbo

Ok im going to try and help you out here as best as i can.....


Do we recommend oil restrictors? No, if you buy a turbo from us and run a restrictor and the turbo fails we will not warranty it. 99% of every rebuild that i see come through here is due to either OIL STARVATION, oil contamination, hot shut down.

So in conclusion run a -3 line with no restrictor and a -10 oil return with a good slope to it

-We usually tee off the oil dummy light on the back of the block, we've ran setups like yours as well with no problems....

bc the oil that it taps.. is the unfiltered oil.. if you think about it.. and look at how a greddy oil filter adapter is designed it taps the oil coming from the pump going to the filter.. the filtered oil is hole in the middle.. from outerpart of teh filter pushed into the center.. then into teh hole to the block.. thats filtered oil, the greddy taps the oil on the outter part..

the only adapter ive seen that has filtered oil tapped is the GE item

Filtered or not if you change your oil every week like i do i mean its a cheap investment to protect something that you spend alot of money on ie: sleeveing/pistons/etc... You shouldnt have no problems when i see oil contamination issues its mostly bearing material in the chra or something of that nature....

I was under the impression that it flows through the middle part through the filter then to the outter portion being filtered oil........am I wrong?

whats the best way to run my line? Off the sending unit? With an inline filter? Off the sandwich??

yup. oil goes into the ""holes" in a circle" first.. then thru the filter element.. then thru the center of the filter.... to the block..
