Turbo and Long Trips?
Ok guys
This may be a dumb question, but I was wondering how a turboed car would do on a long trip. These are my thoughts: Would I need to make stops every so often so I don't build up too much heat from the boost, or would I be ok just driving straight? I've heard two different answers- Yes x amount of hours boosted is crazy, so I should just pull over or spend the night somewhere, and 2 Im not under boost if I'm not rapidly accelerating, and shouldn't worry about it too much as long as I don't drive nuts. The trip is about 20+ hours and I would be making subsequent 5 or so hour runs, and I'm paranoid about it. I'm not sure about the 2nd answer bc I my thought is I'm driving 80ish I'm at 4k rpms. What are you thoughts on turbos and long trips.

No need to worry about anything at all. Art and I live in Texas and we both routinely make several hundred mile trips over a weekend.
One thing to remember. When you pull off the interstate to fuel up, give the turbo a long time to cool down before shutting the engine off. Actually I'm guilty of just leaving the car running while I gas up.

I've done 17 hours continuosly, one way. No problems, 'cept that my dp almost fell off, but that was my own fault.
You don't have to cool the car down every once in awhile, just listen to MarkC, and when you do stop, let the car chill for awhile.

yes marky be doing lotsa trips that focker. I may think it could cause a prob if you have something like a custom tubular manifold like me, cast iron like a drag of rev etc no probs. Prolly the excessive long runs and heat could crack the tubular mani. Maybe not. It did for me on a 45 minute trip. all is well now.
good luck on the trip
good luck on the trip
