Turbo gaskets question which material is best?
when replacing the downpipe gasket, manifold Inlet Flange gasket, etc. which material is best to use. Metal, paper, or rtv sealant?
I've used a thicker paper gasket and coated it with copper spray and used rtv to make sure it was a tight seal on my downpipe... Worked perfectly... A can of Copper spray is very useful and can go a long way in making sure things seal correctly!
I think more than the material, it's the thickness of the material, if those metal gaskets are thick enough they work... I know that I have the stock Turbonetic's metal gasket mating my t3 flange to my ramhorn and it's sealed without issues...

We never use any gaskets between the downpipe or turbo to manifold. If each surface is flat there won't be a problem sealing. You can actually get away with out using a gasket on the manifold to head side ( not that I'd recommend this ) but learned this from forgetting to install a gasket on a motor we were mocking up and taking a manifold back on an off. When we put it back on and started it up, we noticed the gasket laying on the ground still, but it didn't leak. We still took everything back off though an install the gasket.
good info guys, i will inspect further to see which ones are leaking i used metal gaskets initially, but they are all covered with a heat wrap. I think im going to uncover it and see whats is leaking and make corrections.
