Turbo Coolant Return Line and thermostat flow
I know this has been discussed a million times but my question has to do with how the thermostat affects coolant flow.
Originally I was going to use the 1/8 NPT side port on this barbed fitting that came with the Victor X manifold. But its not really big enough for a -6 AN line and Im not sure if this bypass hose gets coolant when the tstat opens. Can anyone confirm if this bypass line gets flow both when the tstat is open and closed?
My 2nd option is to tap the back of the thermostat housing like in this picture (left smaller black plug on the tstat housing). Does the back of the thermostat get flow when the tstat is open and closed? Thanks to haydenpothoven for the picture.

This is why I stick to oil-cooled turbos. Too complicated for me.

I´ve got the Fast Turbo coolant line kit and it comes with a weld on fitting for the water pipe. If you´ll go with the second option it´s the same situation. The return line is still before the thermostat so I don´t see a problem. I tapped my thermostat housing too because I don´t want to use the weld on fiting. A 6AN fitting fits perfect!

Is your block OBDI? I ditched the factory oil cooler and used the leftover coolant ports to feed the turbo. I tapped the lower portion of my radiator for the return line.

cant really answer your question as far as flow, but i feed from a hole tapped into the tstat housing. and return to bottom of radiator.

I just used the fitting off the side of my victor X that had the spot for the small line.. and i fed the other one off a T from my thermostat line...
as long as its a loop including the turbo, feed and return dont really matter IMO, the coolant system is always flowing... so as long as the turbo has coolant, you're good to go

I ran mine off that same exact spot, i used a 1/8 too 6an fitting, the i removed the fan switch and got the fitting for there and used that as a feed or return .im not sure how its flowing.But i know 1 is before the thero and one is after.

On the left you can see the feed line fitting and in the right (thermostat housing) is the fitting for the return line.

The easiest way is to just put the lines between the TB and the IM as described in the instructions for the Edelbrock turbo kit. Download the instructions from their site.
