Turbo blew up on itself!
well kinda. the oil seal suddenly took a ****. i guess i knew it was on its way out, cause it used to smoke real badly until i put a restrictor and catch can on the motor. it barely smoked at all now.
until yesterday morning. on the 5 mile trip home, i went through alteast a quart of oil!! i was leaving a smoke screen behind me!. you could see oil coming out of the turbine housing and down pipe and there is a sweet coating on the inside of dp, like an 1/8 in thick. oil even dripped out of the back of the exhaust when the front end was up in the air!
it seems to have blown out of the comp seal as well, as there was a good amount of oil in the compressor housing and in pre-ic charge pipe, like enough to make a puddle after i set it down. but there is no oil post-ic and none really in the ic.
also its a liquid cooler center section and the oil in the turbine housing was milky looked like there was coolant in it, but there was no coolant in the motor oil and no oil in the motor coolant. and after psuedo pressure testing the coolant passages and oil passages, i cannot find them leaking into each other.
has this ever happened to anyone else? comments, suggestions, questions??
i will be rebuilding it with a staggered oil seal this time.
thanks
