Hi everyone I have a 99 gsr with a full race gt35r kit. The car is 350-360 hp no problem.

Recently it spun a rod bearing and now is knocking. I just want to get the car back on the road etc and then decide what I'm going to do with it.

Here is where the fork in the road comes:

Option 1) I disassemble everything and do a bottom end rebuild with oem bearings etc. maybe forged pistons with decent rods? I'm thinking 800-1000 for piston / rod combo and 250 ish for oem bearings , and 3-500 labor or machine work

1750-1800 range ish

Or option 2) get a low mileage short block from h motors online with 44-55k for 1275$ shipped. All I would need to do is swap a couple of things and call it a day. Figure 100$ for arp head studs and use the brand new oem hg I have lying around. And then deal with my current motor at a later time.

1375-1400$ out the door, my head and everything else is golden

I'm leaning more toward option two, because 1) I don't have a lot of time to wait 2) I want the car back as quick as possible.

If you were in my predicament which option would you favor over the other. I don't plan on raising the boost. Just want my reliable daily (and the car was very reliable until I let it sit for 6-7 months or so).

I agree option one.. do it right the first time so you don't have to do it multiple times
