turbo b16 > turbo b18!!
i was wondering if there is that noticable of a difference in the b16 vs. b18 both completely stock with a drag gen 3 kit with same boost. will the numbers show dramatic differences between the 2 engines. i am trying to decide which one to get and would be able to get a b16 and turbo very soon and maby have to wait a while for the b18 and turbo. i dont want to make the wrong decision so any thoughts on the different engines would be nice. thanks alot

is it worth the extra 600-700$ for the b18 or will the power between the 2 be somewhat close?

this week i sold my b16 shortblock and drag 3 kit to have my b18 sleeved and do a custom kit. I wasnt satisfied with the power it was making. Just my .02 though.
Get the 1.8 if at all possible. IMO you will be more happy than if you went with the b16. And depending on what drag kit you buy the kit for the b16 has a smaller turbo than the one for the GSR drag kit.

would a stock b16 with exhaust and the drag 3 turbo kit be able to get me into the low 13's to 12's? i would be pleased with 12's, is this possible

It depends on what car you have. If you have that set-up at about 10lbs on a gutted crx, you can hit low 13/high 12. What car do you have anyways?

the setup would be goin into an EK hatch. i would like to have it reliable and all the interior would still be in the car. 13's most likely with b16 + drag gen 3???

ahah. i just wanted 13.8. ended up w/ a 13.6. THen I wanted 12.9, got that. Now I want 11.9. so like joe said, you will never be happy. I would boost a B18c just cause it will have more potential in the long run but both can be fast.

make sure the graphs of the b16 you were looking at werent actually 84mm bore. That would bring the b16 very close to a 1.8 liter

i've had both and i like the B16 much better. it has less torque but you can rev it a bit higher. Boost makes torque. a stock Ls motor can only rev to like 7k. once you build boost you'll be on the rev limiter right away. i've tried all 3 tranny's with both motors (Ls, B16 & GSR trannies). i even tried different Ecu's with the Ls motor but it ran best with the Ls ecu (low rev limit).

What about an LS motor? They're a LOT cheaper than a B16a, and 200 ft lbs of torque at 7 psi ain't bad either. IMO, vtec is a hicky on a gnat's *** compared to boost. You could spend some of the leftover coin on Hondata, a GSR tranny or Quaife LSD...

B18A/B head flows like **** over 6K, power drops or flatlines noticeably.
B16 head flows beautifully, but is noticeably torqueless.
I'd really run either, they both hold boost very well. See what falls into place for the best price with low miles.
