Default turbo b16 help

ok i have a stock b16 with just about every bolt on and arp rod bolts. im debating on going all motor or turboing it. so far its looking like turbo. anyways i was curious as to how much boost i would be safe running during the week, and on the weekend when it will be getting raced. its mostly going to be a weekend car, but rarley on the weekdays. i will be using a t3 turbo, log manifold, fmic, 2.5 piping, 2.5 exhaust, uberdata or crome tuned, and 450 injectors.your help is greatly appreciated

There is no set boost level to run. Safe is under 300whp with a good tune. I ran around 250 and never had a problem and drove it everyday the same way I raced it.

There is no way you will leave the boost low during the week and then turn it up when racing on weekends. Once you turn the boost up, you won't want to turn it down... trust me.

depends on turbo size.. but i'd say you could make 250whp on about 10-12 #'s

You will want atleast a 60trim anything smaller than that will get maxed out way before redline, my freind was running a 42 48 on his b16 and it was way to small, he recently switched to a 60 trim hybrid and its a world of difference.

Okay, I am such a nooB I know, but what is this "trim" being made reference to? I have a similar setup and am looking to upgrade the clutch/flywheel setup to match the power. Thanks...

The trim they are talking about is the side of the compressor or cold side of the turbo.

IMO a GT28R would be a good turbo for a B16. Nice spool up and it can make that 250-300 WHP power goal.

I do remember reading some flow rate lists on the web and on H-T that lists one of the lower trims as flowing more then the next one up. But I dont know if it's the 57 vs 60 or 54 trim vs 57 trim though. Lemme see if I can find the flow rates for all the E trim compressors. I was looking at some turbos earlier and agpturbo.com has the 57 trim listed at 57 trim at 50 lb.min while the 60 trim is at 53 lb/min. So it might be the 54 trim that ouflows the 57 trim, but IIRC it was only by about 1 or 2 lb/min.

ok I found it...the 50 trim is the one that flows more then the next step up. The 50 trim flows 47 lb/min while the 54 trim flows 45 lb/min.

here are some numbers posted by Sonny

Common T04E compressors:
40 trim (36 lbs/min)
46 trim (41 lbs/min)
50 trim (47 lbs/min)
54 trim (45 lbs/min -- note that the 54 trim flows less than the 50 trim)
57 trim (49 lbs/min)
60 trim (50 lbs/min)

Just get a nice kit like a peakboost ,full race, Or nice manifold with a capable turbo and at 7 psi you will be in your desired range. But the parts you choose will really have an effect on your final numbers at lower boost levels.

the reason 50 trims are so damn hard to get. AGP couldn't get me one sold out. a guy there who has been in the business for 20 years suggested the 60 trim to me. cant remember exactly what it was but he was saying the 60 was much better than a 57. I'm no expert so he could have been BSing me ,but those guys seem really cool over there.

Note that we're talking about T3 60-trim wheels - completely different from TO4E 60-trim wheels.
