Turbine Housing Stud Question
Ok, my buddy has a VW GTI, and just just bought a 3" downpipe, upon unbolting the downpipe from the exhaust housing, we found that the threads were stripped......i took pictures but its hard to tell cuz the camera could focus good in the dark.
The question is, are thes studs threaded into the exhaust housing, or pressed? Can they be replaced, I know its not a honda question, but we are kinda SOL.
Pics:
P.S. Is there any possible way we could have stripped the threads when we were taking the nuts off? The car is only 3 months old and no one has ever touched the downpipe.....i was thinking they might have been stripped from the factory.

Re: Turbine Housing Stud Question (Arturbo)
vise grips should do the job easily. just gotta muscle it and be patient. to tighten down the new stud just put a lock nut on the end and tighten it. shouldnt be too tough.

k, ill try it, just dont wanna mess up the stud too much, they are a bitch to get to, the manifold is behind the block instead of in front like our hondas....
Edit: by the way, the car is only 3 months old, I hope vise grips will work

well vise grips are gonna tear the stud up when u pull it out. u need to buy a new stud to put in there. or put a bolt in temporarily if u can.

Re: Turbine Housing Stud Question (Mase)
NOPE, Vise grip idea didnt work, and it fucked up the threads, now for sure there is no hope of getting the nut back on LOL, we were thinkin about just putthing them back on with a fucked up gasket, and taking it back to VW and saying that there was an exhaust leak (heh put new bolts on of course so everything looks un touched..

Re: Turbine Housing Stud Question (Arturbo)
What you need to do is chase the thead. Dont you have a top and die?
i think he needs to soak it in penetrating oil / wd40 overnite and give that or the stuf remover tool a shot.

Re: Turbine Housing Stud Question (falconGSR)
I once had a friggen stud 1 of the 2 oil return flange bolts..... god was this thing a god damn bitch to get out. I was suggested the vice grip idea also... but eventually somehow I was able to turn the WHOLE stud IN a little bit, then it would turn out a little bit also (more then it did before) Well after playing with it for hours it eventually turned all the way out with ease.....
Thank ******* god that stud caused me return flange to leak for 6 months straight... now not a drop of god damn oil
::sees his post is becomming totally irrelevant and runs away::
