I was told by JE that when replacing pistons in an H series motor the block must be bored out and resleved before dropping in any type of piston.... Is this true? Or can I just hone the block? Please someone tell me that I do not need to take the motor out and have it bored and sleved.......I dont have the $$$$ right now to do that......

you can just have it honed no need to bore it and all that stuff. If you cyl walls are okay you should be okay then.

 

can't use forged pistons with stock sleeves in an h22a.

 

the cylinder walls in preludes are made from fiber re-enforced material. you cannot hone or bore these cylinders at all. you have to resleever your block if you are looking to run aftermarket pistons. so yes, JE was correct. It sucks, but then again once you resleeve you virtually have a bullet proof block

no problemo. resleeving your block will cost you right around 1000 after everything has been said and done. Darton does a badddddddd *** job, so does golden eagle.

 

I can get Darton sleeves for about $500 and have my machine shop bore hone and deck my block for $200. Or I could go with Goledn Eagle and ship the block to them have it done $825+$125 for bore and Hone....Then ship it back for $50. The only thing is. It'll take 1 month for turn around at the GE and my guy could probably do it in a week. What do you guys think? Also, will going 88mm from the stock 87mm bore make a difference?

 

Not exactly true. You can slap set of 87mm stock bore pistons back in and you should be fine. its only when you got to forged setup that you see issues.

 

I am getting a set of forged JE pistons...so I guess I am SOL either way....

 

Ok, this is the beaten to death topic. I lost the link that I read this info from (And I talked to a buddy that is an ASE honda Tech, and really knows his ****!), but the sleeve walls are aluminium. Then there is the FRM. This liner is a hardened material that keeps aluminium from rubbing against aluminium. The liner is .5 mm thick. You can safely hone to .25 mm, so that is why the Type S pistons that are .2 mm over stock will work in an un-sleeved block. That is why any piston will work in an unsleeved block as long as the FRM is not honed over .25 mm. If anyone is looking for the GE sleeves, I am sponsoring a GB for them in the FI section. Price for the Lude is $644 + $17.50 for tax. Bore and Hone is $125 Extra and the pistons need to be included. I am also sponsoring a JE GB for 87 mm and 87.5 mm pistons for $495.
