h22a cylinder and pistons.
I have an h22a that has a bad miss, with over 100k miles on it and possibly some damage in cylinder 1 (had the electrode get partially blown off a sparkplug with nitrous).
I am looking at putting a set of wiseco pistons in to avoid sleeving the block. I have been told that i cannot overbore to anythign higher than 87.5mm because the sleeve will not be useable after that.
Assuming that the bore is not out of round....can i hone and put stock bore forged pistons in there without worrying about piston slap or poor ring seating?
I dont want to hear about sleeves...I do know these pistons are safe in the FRM block.
If anyone can enlighten me....i appreciate it!

you might want to try searching in the prelude forum, and if you mention anything aobut puting forged pistons in you stock block your gonna get flammed ( some people are really touchy when it come sot his subject) , just do some searches on boring the frm. i know you can't bore it too much without making it unusable, and yes the wiseco pistons is prob a good option, i guess it depends on how damaged your sleves are when you take apart you engine. sounds like you were abusing it pretty hard.
if its not too bad bore and put wiseco pistons in,
if its bad then resleve and build it the right way, good luck

then why does honda sell pistons that are .020 oversized if you can bore it that much? I am not looking for more displacement I am looking for a good sealing surface...
As far as forged psitons in FRM blocks the technology has been around for a while...people can flame me but it jsut shows their own ignorane. The s2000 pistons are forged yet work fine in the FRM block of f20c. Wiseco has been selling pistons that are supposed to be safe in FRM blocks for over a year and has not had a set back yet...
I really hope to avoid the $600+ cost of sleeving the block since it will never see turbo or more than a 75 shot on n2o...i guess it all depends on the condition of it now. My fear is the ringlands are cracked which could lead to accelerated wear and out of round bore...
im checking the prelude forum as well but not find much yet..

my concern is not the forged and frm issue....its the tolerance issue. I dont want to drop in stock bore pistons in a post 100K block and find out there is enough wear in the sleeves that i suffer piston slap leading to excess wear.
you can bore frm but only alittle, i would call your local honda dealer and ask them, or search in the prelude section. yes i agree that honda would not sell oversized pistons if you could not bore alittle, i think also there is a method of telling how much wear is on your cyclinders by measuring the gap on the ring? im not sure on that though try consulting a helms manual they have all kind of inspection tech stuff in there
cool thanks. i know that this is frustrating for me. i didnt think the helm had as much good stuff....thanks for opening my eyes to that, though i own 2 of em for diff cars i never use em cept for torque specs. Hopefully i can dig what i need out cause a honda dealer...no way im gonna trust the ones here.
