Default Trubo and Intercoolers

hey guys, i just got an 04' civic, im waiting for turbo kits to come out, but i have a stupid question, if i put an intercooler on the turbo, that just increases the amount of air right?...that means a higher PSI...right?..well if that happens, does that mean, if i set the turbo to a couple PSI below max, and then i throw on the intercooler, if the psi went above the max that the turbo puts out...would that blow the turbo??????
Thanks....tan

you need to do a search on how this stuff works... and then search some more.

No intercoolers dont increase psi. Please read more before posting.

FMIC might even drop the PSI depending on the size.

why are you ppl so bent on being the first to say "SEARCH BITCH" is it so hard to answer the dudes question? no wonder its the same group of 20 people posting all the time, you ppl intimidate noobs calling anything they say or ask as stupid. Newsflash, we all have to start somewhere, and last time I checked HT was supposed to be a "technical resource". jesus tap dancing christ. notice he hasn't posted again, no wonder.

tan, the intercooler is there to reduce charge air temps, high charge air temp can lead to detonation, but it is just one of many factors that will do that fuel octane, delivery and other variables have an effect too. you may experience pressure drop with an IC that is too large or one that is poorly designed, but some light drop is to be expected and shouldn't affect too heavily how the set up works. i would recommend the how stuff works links provided as it will give you better overall idea of the system dynamics. continue to post your questions, don't let these ****** get to you.

I wholeheartedly agree. No discussion about this either...lets stick to tech. Just know that the "go search" thing is necessary sometimes, but not just because its basic. Basic doesnt mean redundant.

Carry on!

**this is where i learned a lot of turbo stuff when i didnt know much about boost. some of the **** on there is kinda ghetto but you will get the basics. intercoolers cool intake charge temps which results in denser air which contains more oxygen molecules, which creates more power

yes, think of the intercooler as a large radiator, it cools the compressed air as it enters the throttle body, hot air=less power, and possible detonation, thus an intercooler decreases this probability by cooling the charged, compressed air generated by the turbo. (turbo runs off exhoust...therefore HOT)

Yeah but this guy has a LOT to learn. It will take a lot more info then you just provided. I'm not going to spend an hour typing up an essay on how all this stuff works (just like you didn't). It's been covered many times before, and the best place to start is by searching.
I'm all for teaching people about stuff that I know about but they have to do some research on their own. If they don't understand something, by all means post the question and somebody will answer it.
Nowhere in this thread did I see anybody go off on this guy, a few actually provided a bit of knowledge before telling him to search more.
