transient response on a 1.8 LS/VTEC
this is a question for you more experienced guys/turbo guru's running daily driven street cars.. since this is something that doesn't really show up on a dyno chart
the scenario is a LS/VTEC, 81mm bore, blox/inline etc log manifold, target is not more than ~350whp.. turbo choices: GT28RS, GT2871R, SC50, T3/T4E-50trim etc
1. actually how does a small-trim T3/T4E compare to the GT28RS/GT2871R on a 1.8 LS/VTEC in terms of transient response?
2. does putting a BB cartridge on the T3/T4 help at all?
thanks for any advice

This probably too technical of a question for honda-tech. When you say transient, do you mean the bahavior up to full boost. That would be the part that levels out (goes away) aka transient.

Re: transient response on a 1.8 LS/VTEC (trecool44)
well i was thinking more along the lines of snap-throttle changes from a steady state cruise.. i.e. the kind of stop and go driving in the city
sorry if i used the word 'transient' wrongly

a small enough trim t3/t4 to match the response of a gt28rs wont make 350hp easily.
a gt28rs is the ticket for low 300ish hp and exelent response. with a good head and good exh manifold we have made ~380 with the gt28rs, but with a blox/inline pro, i dont see the 28rs making that much. on a 1.8 liter the turbine of the 28rs/2871r will be the limiting factor.
putting a bb center on a normal t3/t4 will help, but its not only the bb that make a garrett gt turbo a gt turbo.. the wheel designs are much better than the old "t" stuff

If you have the money and are that worried about response on tip-in and shifts I would go with the GT2871R. It will make 350+whp
