Default trail of white smoke = ???

if im running rich it should be black smoke right?

if im burning oil it will smell really bad and its blue smoke right?

if its greyish smoke and odorless its coolant burning right?

at idle... i noticed smoke coming from under my hood. im not overheating though. under hard acceleration on the freeway theres a big trail behind me... the cars actually slow down so they can see.

Could it be the seals in the turbo?

I believe bad turbo seals will produce blackish smoke... sounds like a headgasket to me... You overheating at all or loosing any coolant?

no overheating at all. my temp gauge never reaches halfway. radiator fluid is the same level as its been for the last few months.

so... what could it be? my idle seems fine so im really clueless.

edit: erm, while removing the pipe w/ the filter attached to it, i saw a tiny puddle of oil where the silicone and compressor meet. if the other side was leaking... wouldnt it be burned out the exhaust?

i checked the compressor side of the turbo. it spins nicely... will keep spinning when i let it go. it also doesnt have any shaft play still.

Is the smoke occuring during acceleration, or after?

I had a problem where my head lifted a bit off the gasket, and I would only get clouds of white smoke after acceleration, completly off the gas pedal. It would occur during the transition from boost to vacuum, coolant would get sucked into the cylinders and smoke like mad!

A retorque of my copper gasket fixed it, although it did score the cylinder walls a bit...

Rebuild the turbo - oil in the piping is not good.

Do you have any oil gauges? If I were you, I would be watching your oil pressure/levels and coolant levels.

My guess is that you are just burning the oil in your turbo. Sounds like what happened to me - I had to get the O-rings in the turbo redone.

No. The coolant was not mixing with the oil in my case, just seeping into the cylinders under vacuum.

you are in denial, do your self a favor and pull the motor apart. white smoke most likely it's a burnt piston. perform a leak down test is the best way to eliminate uncertainty..........
