TPS sensor question
how do u know when your tps sensor goes bad? I know Cel, but anything else?
I ask this because my car idles funny and around 4k rpms it hesitates.
idles at like 800rpms and then bumps to like 1300rpms. Back and forth, back and forth.
little bit of info on this would be nice. Or what the problem might be.
Thanks, andy
( would an alternator do something like this? ) i say that when im at idle my volt guage goes from 14volts to about 12ish. I think thats when my car bounces around in the rpm range.
Thanks

Re: TPS sensor question (turboedsi)
mine did that and it was because I didnt have the right vaccumm signal to my map sensor and it caused the idle to get all screwy...went from 700-1300 back to 700 then up to 1300...very annoying, The reason was because I tried eliminating that stupid charcoal can on my crx and got a vaccumm manifold and ran a line for the map right from it...well it wouldnt work, so finally i put everything back to stock and the car idled fine....but anyway thats what caused my problem similar to yurs....
Check the voltage on yur tps 0v closed .5v open I believe....about the only way i know to check for sure to see if its reading correctly

Re: TPS sensor question (pornstarSR)
IMHO error on the side of <.5 at closed throttle. Around .48-.49.
The smallest error when setting the TPS can cause part throttle (tip in/out) hiccups. A misadjustment can also show up as a premature fuel cut at around 1800 with minimum throttle, ie ECU thinks throttle is closed and cuts fuel (corrects for an idle problem when there is none)

If it was bad your car would drive like a Gremlin on 2 cyl, unplug it and see what it does.

Re: TPS sensor question (leed)
you are right, its supposed to be slightly below .5v like .48 or .49
but aslong as you dont go over .5v at closed it should be fine...
thats the specs that michell and alldata state...
my suggestion about all this... be careful adjusting the TPS....ive adjusted mine to the specs above numerous times, and i still think its causing my problem.... factory set

Re: TPS sensor question (pornstarSR)
What would cause your TPS to line up with the bolt holes at .50v and voltage go down instead of up when the throttle is increased. My TPS worked fine but I had to take it off a y8 TB and put it on a z6 TB.
Also, I got it to line up about .57v would that work or would i really need to get it set at .50v and nothing higher?

Re: TPS sensor question (inline4hatch)
at .57 the motor could think the throttle is slightly open...thats why we stated that just slightly below is optimal...
try slotting the sensor so it moves..
also there are these metal sleeves in the holes on the sensor, if you take those out you might be able to get you extra .07v...just a suggestion
