Default total timing

can someone explain total timing to me. all i know is that the stock timing is set at 16deg during idle (i think). i was looking at a uberdata stock map and the timing reads 16.50deg at 500rpm with 24.00 of vacuum and than it gradually goes up to 38deg at 7940rpm with 24vac. so the timing was advance 22 deg (right), but once it hit boost the timing get retard by 1deg per pound. i mean by this if I'm at 1psi at 500rpm the total timing should be set at 15deg (right). please guide me in the right direction. if I'm wrong please go ahead and explain this to me like if i was a 5 year old. tx!
