Default Is this too thin for boost?

I have a 82MM GSR that I was thinking about boosting. It is not sleeved at this time. Is this too thin for boost? Should I have the motor sleeved first? I was only looking to make 400whp for a quick daily with a large power band.

Thanks!

Although not the best idea, it can be done. I have my stock sleeve GSR bored to 82mm. It has cast ITR pistons and B16 head coming out to about 11:1 compression. I'm not exactly sure on the power level as the car is street tuned, but I trap 125. I'm aware that this is not the safest and would not recommend it to someone as a DD, but I have DD'd the setup since 2012 and it's still together, for now.

The car is ~12:1 compression and on E85. I suppose I should just get it sleeved at this point since the high compression and boost will probably not last long :/

It can be done on E85 if you have a great tuner. 400 on stock sleeves and 12:1 would be difficult and need a really good tuner.

I dont *think* 82mm is too much. Check out Cylinder Support System if you are nervous about the stock sleeves.

I dont think anyone can tell if you they'll hold or not. Stock sleeves are a crapshoot, but highly dependant on how conservative the tune is and the fuel.

With E85 you'll be safer because the combustion temps will be lower and the sleeves will not stress as much from the heat. Under 400whp Id probably take that gamble.

Cylinder pressure will crack a sleeve before heat.

I think.

If b20's can handle around 300-400whp inthink you should be fine

Keep timing safe, fuel safe. Dont detonate or pre ignite and you should be fine

But we dont live in a perfect world do we? Lolol

Funny you mention this because I've seen numerous banners of this company here on HT when hopping between forums....

Do you have any firsthand experience on them? Their webpage is real basic so from what I could tell it's merely an ad flyer at this stage since I couldn't browse beyond the home page....it looks like they offer pretty stout reinforcement but is this just a beefier block guard as oppose to sleeves?

Not first hand but have several friends have used them with good success.

So basically if I shoot for 350 to 400whp and use a block guard with a good conservative tune I should be alright.

That's reassuring. Maybe I should start hunting down some parts and piece together a setup 😈

Yeah in looking at the design its definitely a step up from a blackguard w/out going full sleeves....would be a nice addition for anyone looking to do a stock sleeved B20 turbo inspite of those with conservative or spot-on tunes
