wouldnt oil make the gas more prone to detonation? how safe is propane? toluene seems like a good idea since its a main ingredient in gasoline anyways and is sold at autoparts stores as an octane booster.

It's not really stupid, I don't even totally get how it works either. You inject propane much like on some diesel trucks, and it bumps up the octane, and some people think it cools the IAT, but there isn't any proof that it does.

The oil is to lube the fuel pump, as xylene is very dry. I think propane is fairly safe, there are a few propane injection kits on the market, a lot of viper nitrous kits use propane, a swack load of GN guys use propane, and TONS of diesel truck guys running propane as well.

Propane is a gas. You store it under pressure. When a gas moves from a pount of high pressure, to low pressure, it cools very rapdily. THis is how your a/c works. propane injection WILL cool your iat, is not mixed withyour gas, and is applied using an extra set of injectors.

Isn't the propane injected with a jet similar to a nitrous jet?

Just remember you have to keep propane at a perfect temperature. otherwise it could be just a weee bit dangerous.
