Default Toluene???

How many of you use it? Any cons/bad effects with long term use on a daily driven car. I plan to run a 95-96 mix on every refill...bad?

it just sounds too good to be true

sold at your local sherwin williams. 114 octane. $8-10 for 1 gallon, $5-8/g for 5 gallons, <$5 for 55 gallon drums.
I work at a paint shop so i get a better price.

I figured 10 galllons mid grade + 2 gallons toulene. close to 95 mixture. I could live with $6 extra every fill up

My friend runs ghetto race gas(toulene mix) in his supra daily. It works great for him, but those cars have factory knock sensors. I'd be scared of having an inconsistancy w/ the toulene mixing. are u planning on running more boost/timing then 93 octane will allow?

what could go wrong, how could it be inconsitant?

i dont plan to run insane boost levels. just want extra security for my untuned motor. The higher the octane>less chance of detonating>more timing, correct? so i can raise the boost a little more and not worry about stock timing

just went to sw and bought a gallon (8.95) and poured it into 7gal. of premium. havent ran the car long enough for the new mix to take effect, but i'll post later

Good luck finding it in California. I used to use toluene/diesel fuel as a tire softener, but it is very very hard to get toluene here now.

I run it in my dsm. It works great. Consider it unleaded race gas. DOn't go over 30% in your gas though or your car will have a bad idle because it doesen't like to burn at low temps. It is like 114 octane. A 30% mixture with 94 octane pump gas puts me easilly over 100 octane, without the lead. Its perfecly safe, and is actually found in pump gas anyways. Xylene also works great, but has less BTU than toulene. I find that xylene works better for boosted engines, keeping EGT's down just a little more because toulene burns a little hotter. Whatever works though. I typically run 2 psi more boost at least with xylene or toulene, with simillar knock counts on my logger. Just be sure to add 2-3 ounces of 2 stroke motor oil or something to lubricate your fuel pump a little or your'll burn it up.

you can also use MTBE which is also found in pump gasoline. It is far more easily obtainable.

Ive used toluene, but everywhere I go xylene is more obtainable.
Would there be any difference using xylene?

We run it in our S4's and so do a bunch of guys on Audiworld. I do not think it causes any harm well at least not yet.

Looks like I found a way to effectively/financially daily drive with higher boost on my high compression

In "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell, hes says that in 1987, the Formula 1 guys were running toulene and running 75+ pounds of boost!!!!!!! Also, just an FYI, toulene is the second "T" in TNT.

It gets to be a bit of a pain in the *** though. Alky/water or propane is as effective as running about 104 octane, and propane is a lot cheaper. A lot of the GN guys use it.
