Timing thread for sohc-T
MY question is this. I am running a somewhat of a mini me setup. d16y7 block, d16z6 head. Everything internal is stock, nothing taken off the block or head, so my CR must be like 8.6-1. I am currently running a basemap( will change shortly) But in light throttle situations, my car started to bog down and lose power reall ybad, and i noticed that it started to lean out. So i added a little more fuel to that part of the map. Made things even worse. I started to think that maybe the basemap that i made was for a higher cr d series. I manually advanced the timing on my distributor to see if this cleared up soem things, and violla. my part throttle(out of boost) and mid range power came back. I made one wot pull in secod gear. the car pulled really hard, but close to the end of the rpm's, like over 6k, i head a little bit of a popping sound followed by some smoke that i have never had before. So i drove it nicely for a few miles. The car doesn't smoke, and i don't think anything broke. Does anybody know what to make of it. I am going to put the dist timing back at stock, and advance my timing in the low timing tables for right before i hit boost. does this sound good?

What color smoke? Its probally not a good idea to be making wot pulls on a basemap utnil you have a wideband to see what is going on . Im guessing your smoke was balck due to being rich underboost. What fuel man. are you using? I would only tune the ing. on a dyno so you can visually see wtf is going on with it. Get a wideband and tune the A/F out first. Being to rich will make the car run kinda shitty too.

He's running uberdata (in sig) Put a timing light on it to make sure you're not too advanced. Like he said, no WOT pulls on basemap, that is a no no. I had this problem too and advancing my timing at the dizzy fixed it. I also have a Y7, except mine is tuned. Just get it tuned and you'll be fine.
