Default question regardin timing...

hi everyone,
have a ? regarding timing, how do you know if your timing is off? and how do i go about checking this? my 97accord 2.2 is backfiring and its nothing ignition wise, ive changed and checked everything (plugs,cap,rotor,coil,dist, etc) jus wana know what are sum of the symptoms of bad timing and how i can go bout fixing this.

You can check your valve timing by taking off the timing belt cover & checking the alignment marks on your cam sprocket. A repair manual will have specifics, look up the section on replacing your timing belt.

Check your spark timing with a timing light. The light should have instructions.
