Thoughts on GT30R over 60-1 hifi or GT35r For RSX-s
I'm about to upgrade my manifold to a One-Fab and they said that they can give me a really decent price on the turbo to go with it (a GT30r) I was originally going to go with a CN Manifold and 60-1 turbo or maybe T35r, but was kind expensive and not sure on the fitment.
So what do you guys think about this turbo? does it compare to a Turbonetics 60-1 or GT35 R? is it not going to give me a good top end and push me over there 400whp mark?
here are the details I found on it
FULL STEEL BALLBEARING CENTER SECTION
Ported shroud compressor housing, allowing for a more efficient compressor.
compressor specs: GT30 w/ported shroud
.60 a/r
compressor wheel trim: 56 trim wheel
compressor flow: 53 LB/MIN
turbine specs:T3
.63 a/r or .82 a/r
84 trim wheel
Water cooled and oil lubricated bearing housing standard.
full steel ball bearing cartridge, not ceramic...
price: $1,100.00

Re: Thoughts on GT30R over 60-1 hifi or GT35r For RSX-s (DefiantGSR)
My goal is 400-450 whp.
I was sitting at a little over 300 with my old setup but the top end semmed somewhat weak... My dyno chart showed that the car was making power all the way til 8600 rpms, but It just didnt have that shove you in the seat fealing. Its a little greddy turbo. Great for the street-instant spool, but i'm lookin for more top end power.

I'd go with the GT2871R with .82 turbine. Should be good for 430whp or more. But it would be pretty much maxed out.
In your case, I'd with with the GT3071R .86ar

Yeah that Gt2871R would be pretty close to maxed out. I would go with the gt3071R. That gives you a little more room.

But what about the GT30R runing out of breath on top? the reason why i ask is because someone from clubrsx.com switched from that turbo to a 60-1 cause of this reason... so not sure.
Also, the GT series have this water-oil cooled thing... so whats up with that? do you have an additional water line going to it? if so, do you need like an extra resevoir and pump?
thanx

i got the Gt30R with the .63 exhaust housing. the car dont run out on top like tha rsx guy said(if its the same guy im thinking of). at 15psi with a conservitive tune i made 385.8hp on pump gas .once i straighten out my air/fuel(its 11.1-11.4) and timing im pretty confident it will make over 400hp on pump gas.

For the guys that wanted more info on this
you dont have to run the water part, but i would recomend it since 1. its an expensive turbo and 2. it will help cool down the bearings better so they last longer. what i did was just ran the coolant lines from my throttle body to the turbo then back up to the throttle body. i used banjo bolts of of a dsm and just hose clamped the hoses to them. as for getting this turbo agan, yes, without a doubt, if i would change one thing i might go to the .82(i think thats the size)exhaust side. i have a dyno sheet and it shows the car pullinh past 8500 rpms with no signs of it falling off.

Funny thing is a 60-1 and a GT30R are pretty comparable in the amount of peak horsepower you can push, the GT30R will just have a better power curve.

yeah that's true... On the gt30r you'll probably see around 400hp on 20 psi @ 5000 rpms. That's sweet!

Running that same GT30R (GT3037) on my S2000 with the 0.63 a/r T3 turbine housing. Swapping soon to the 0.82 a/r GT series housing. The turbo spools too quickly to have good traction in first and second gear. So far, I'm incredibly impressed with it and the sound of the ported shroud is awesome!

Re: Thoughts on GT30R over 60-1 hifi or GT35r For RSX-s (timg)
As far as performance, the GT35R and 60-1 (t4 based) seem to make the same top end power, but with the GT35R spooling up much sooner and making more power throughout the powerband.
The GT30R (3037) will probably make as much ultimate power as a 60-1 hifi (t3 based), but should spool sooner and make more power earlier. I have heard of 60 horsepower gains just from switching from a 60-1 hifi to a GT30R (with the same exhaust a/r- 0.82) on a S2000. (see a post about turbo selection on s2ki.com)
The GT3071 will make less power than the GT30R (GT3037), but should spool faster.

How hard is it to hook up the Coolant lines to the turbo? and is it optional to run that feature?
