Default Thermo Wrap

Hi,

Because of the way my downpipe was design. The charge pipe coming out of the turbo to the intercooler comes really close to the downpipe. Its so close Im not sure I could fit a sheet of paper between the two. Im sure this doesnt help with air temp.

So I bought some thermo wrap. I was going to wrap the downpipe but I was told this could increase the lag? Is it true? Should I wrap the charge pipe instead?

Thanks for your input.

Maxime,

Wrap the downpipe. This will help to try to keep underhood temps down some.

I don't see how it would cause lag at all, and if you wrapped the charge pipe you would be sealing whatever heat is in there in and not allow is to relase the heat. you need the heat repelant material that is used to cover AC lines from manifolds for the charge pipe.

Also, in the "installation instruction" it says I need to seal the wrap with some kind of Hi-Heat Coating?!

Is that really necessary?!

And for my chargepipe. Which one would be better?

forget either of those and just buy thermal wrap from ebay. Its like 1-2 inches wide depending on which one you get and it looks like flat like vynl rope.

like this:

You do not "need" to put anything on it to keep out moisture but some like to so that it does not trap moisture between wrap and downpipe and potentially cause rusting. DEI also makes a spray you can buy on ebay that is a silicone heat barrier so the wrapping will not trap any moisture.
