Default Thermal 3" exhaust question!

Hey guys, I have a question.

Is the thermal 3" exhaust 3 inches OD or ID? I have the exahust but its not here with me. I ordered a 3" magnaflow cat and it just arrived. I also ordered some 3" butt joint band clamps from summit... the same ones that are holding my pieced together thermal exhaust now. Problem is, this cat is aparently 3" ID and in no shape or form do these same band clamps i have on my thermal fit around this magnaflow cat!

So is the thermal actualy 3" OD? Will is slip fit into the cat?

Thanks for the help guys.

I have the thermal 3" it is ID. but the muffler center section is 2.5" for 13".

I love mine all the joints over lap and it fit like a glove. And the sound is soo ****in nice. Ive done over 3 exhaust 3" on same sized cars and all sounded ricey.

I love mine and would not trade it for anything else.

Have you guys actualy measured? I always thought it was true 3" too. But maybe its not... the piping is very thin. Acording to this link these guys measured with a mcirometer and get 3.006 OD and 2.856 ID...

Well in case anyone cares, it is true, the thermal is 3" OD and 2.85" ID ... it slips easily into my true 3" ID magnaflow cat.

Wow a lot of people didn't do their hw before they posted... I also bought a 3" Magnaflow cat and it was convenient to slip the piping strait into it, I just clamped the one side and welded a flange to the other.

what type of clamp did you use? Did yours fit snugly, or did it have a little play? Mine has a small amount of play and im wondering if a recular like c clamp will snug it up enough?

I used a c type of clamp and it apears to be working fine. I didn't have too much play once I got the pipe about 1.5 inches in.

Get it welded if you want it to last.

I had a welder when I built the rest of the exhaust but I decided to weld a flange on one side and clamp the other so I could remove it if I wanted (just didn't feel like waiting for more flanges to arrive and spending extra money on them). It's going to last just as long as if I had welded it, and strength is good but in the end it's an exhaust not a roll cage.
