Techie question for you gurus - RRR's and fields controllers
I had a problem under boost and not until recently did i figure out i was running lean (i havnt been getting on it that hard lately so didnt notice).. above 5k in third (any gear for that matter)...
this morning.. i figured i'd up the fuel on the vtec/sfc fields to +10% and see what happens.. changed the settings at one stop light... got moving hit third and went for it... the air/fuel stayed rich instead of lean.. problem solved..
i upped the boost at the next light to 8lbs, did another pull and it works..
ok, so i bov'd a motorcycle cop but didnt get pulled over... (whew!)
RRR's work off boost pressure
fields and apexi controllers work off ecu fuel maps/voltage
Q? How is it that a boost dep. regulator works under boost, but the fields had to adjust the fuel even though i'm running stock injectors at a certain rpm range...???

Re: Techie question for you gurus - RRR's and fields controllers (GSRwBOOST)
you are talking about two seperate things
the RRR ups fuel pressure based on boost pressure
the fields alters injector duty cycle, based on user input - it modifys the MAP sensor signal to the ECU, fooling it into thinking it needs more fuel. It accomplishes this by holding the injector open longer.

That I understand.. so what you are saying is that the RRR ups the fuel pressure (allowing more flow) and the fields fools the ecu into keeping the injector open longer allowing the up'd fuel pressure to squirt more fuel in during that duty cycle?
fields controls how many times the injector squirts fuel
RRR controls fuel pressure to force more fuel in during that squirt?

Re: Techie question for you gurus - RRR's and fields controllers (GSRwBOOST)
you got it sir.
To reiterate, the RRR pushes more fuel through the same open time on the injectors
the fields controls the open/close time on the injectors
Together you can add/subtract the right amount of fuel. I'd really recommend use of a Dynojet with a wideband O2 to get your air/fuel ratios around 12.6:1 - otherwise, you're just guessing

thanks.. i plan on dyno'ing soon, but in the short term didn't want to have an SS roll on me and not be able to throw down!
damn.. I get smarter every day!!
