tapping manifold for egt probe?
I heard it was possible to tap the manifold while the car was running, with the turbo still attached? Is this true? The reason I'm asking is my new manifold that I put on a week ago to move the car out of the garage now has a stripped bolt and I can't seem to get it out! I'm tired of ******* with it and I was wondering has anyone done this?

If you have to drill/tap a hole into the manifold (without taking it off)...where are all the metal shavings going to go?

Some of the DSM guys do it with the manifold ont he car and the engine running. They say the shavings are small enough to pass thru the turbine without hurting anything. I would assume they aren't running cats, though, since the shavings would definitely get stuck in the cat. I would just work on getting your manifold off, since you're going to need to do that sometime. Might as well fix it now. Or, you could pput your EGT probe in the downpipe. Or, if you have a T3 turbine, you can put it in the dp flange pointing into the w/g hole.

how about taking the turbo off, tap for the EGT probe, and use a vacuum cleaner to suck as much as you can, then, turn the car on for like 2 sec so it will blew all the shavings out of the manifold, i know this sound scrazy, but it'll do the job

A lot of the DSM people drill the manifold while the car is running. I dont recommend it, but people do it. If you are going to do it, here are somethings to help you out. (tips taken from reading the DSM boards):
1. drill slowly
2. take cat off
3. always have car running
4. Might want to use grease on the drill bit to help catch some of the filings.
hope this helps.
